The promise of Mastodon is amazing, but I worry that promise is way too technical for most people to comprehend just yet.

@Gargron That's true! Just see a lot of Dutch people just comparing it with Twitter and not understanding the real difference. But maybe that won't be necessary, time will tell :-)
@Gargron To clarify: I didn't mean the UI is too technical to comprehend. The promise of Mastodon is it being a federated service right? I don't think a lot of people understand what that means. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what it truly encompasses.
@yoeran Imo the easiest way to explain is to compare it to e-mail. There's gmail, there's hotmail, they can send each other stuff

@Gargron That's a good metaphor! Was just thinking if that would make sense. So instances could either become providers or specific communities.

Does the app offer control over who signs up? Say I want to run my own instance and only let my employees create an account.

@yoeran I was thinking an option like that would be useful (as well as a single-user setup)
