Welcome to #fediverseFriday:

Topics:
- introduce ppl to each other #followFriday #ff

- #discourse about improvmentns of the #fediverse

- reflection about our #culture here

- advice tipps and tricks around the fediverse

I'll start with
#ff
@Antanicus talks about current events and politics

@javalucy <--boosted nice stuff ;-)

@[email protected] ( queer anarchist buddhist engineer )

@Curator curates #MastoART and creative thoughts for th'Fediverse

What could be better from the culture side:

- understanding the value of others work
- using and supporting already existing resources
- working together on "how can we the improve the #fediverse as best", instead of being "one plattform focused"

Example:
Some years ago #diaspora thoght of using #loomio as a tool to make desicions for the fediverse, while this plattform is build for group desicions not networks, and being centralized.

Many ppl where through that cut off from the conversations. Cause why should someone join a loomio group if knowing it's a bad idea.

Also they have choosed #discourse as a forum as #mastodon did. Again it cut's a lot of ppl form paricipating.

Using a centralized plattform to form metadiscussions give centralized power to those leading the plattform.

Also it keeps on ignoring the years of work of @mike and other developers put in developing a plattform which actually has a well functioning federated forum integrated.

Why not using a federated #forum for #metatalk?

Why not using and supporting exisiting infrastructure?

#fediverseFriday

So for those don't know #hubzilla yet.

It is a fully functioning federated #cms.
It comes along with #forum, #wiki, webpage, #chat, #cloud and #webdav and more.

Beside that it has as the only network a #nomadicIndentity

Having a #nomadicIdentity means you are not bond to an instance
You can travel around #instances and always take your friends and followers with you

By that no #admin will have the power of breaking the connection between you and followers. All the power is in your hands. Only you and your connections decide if the connection should stay or being silenced. No #cencorship

You can find me here https://frama.link/FAPLs5m3

There is already a lot of #collaboration happening, don't get me wrong.
But somehow I feel that the #fediverse vibe hasn't really arrived yet.

One little idea how to move forward:

- creating a #fediverseSymbol

The symbol raises awarness for the existence of all the different plattforms. It could be embeded into the all the landingpages and linking to a #federated #wiki with further information

Also I have been observing a couple of times issues comming from pure "docracy" aproaches.

A developer has a new idea for their plattform and pushs it forward. Sometimes (actually even often) it's in conflict with existing development of other plattforms.

An advice process and and a clear documantation about previous desicions and their reasons could help to find greater #desicions.

There is no majority forcing a desicion but documenting.

@paulfree14
How does one go about joining hubzilla with your existing Mastodon account? Is there a guide somewhere?
@paulfree14 @ChristianD
mastodon doesn't have a #nomadicIdentity. So that is not working.
But you can create a new hubzilla account and mirror your mastodon channel. also you can comunicate with ppl being on mastodon. ...to have that working the instance you're joining needs to have the gnusocial plugin enabled.
@paulfree14 @paulfree14
Then is there any point to using hubzilla if the only gnu social platform you use is Mastodon?
@paulfree14 @ChristianD
it depends what you want. if you just want a microblogging plattform and being fine with being bound to one instance and so to the admins, hubzilla would be kind of pointless.
#hubzilla would be an overkill. it is a full cms including: #webpage, #wiki, #forum, #socialnetwork, #cloud incl. #webdav and more
@paulfree14 mastodon developers doesnt even wanna tell you, that you are using the fediverse lol
@paulfree14 this all sounds interesting, can you tell me more?
@ckeen @paulfree14
#nomadicIdentity
The ability to authenticate and easily migrate an identity across independent hubs and web domains. Nomadic identity provides true ownership of an online identity, because the identities of the channels controlled by an account on a hub are not tied to the hub itself.
@paulfree14 @ckeen
#nomadicIdentity
A hub is more like a "host" for channels. With Hubzilla, you don't have an "account" on a server like you do on typical websites; you own an identity that you can take with you across the grid by using clones.
#hubzilla
@paulfree14 @paulfree14 Now I wish I could connect the mastodon feed to it, the tabs on social media get out of hand 😄
@paulfree14 @ckeen
then just do it ;)
#hubzilla is build to add any feed you like.
and also make any feed you like to post as you like.
@paulfree14 @paulfree14 I am still getting my feet wet with that.
@paulfree14 @ckeen
I would say it's the best out there. ....and still very unpopular. It might be a bit to complicated for the most users.
But this could be chaged if some could invest some time.
...it could even look like mastodon, but with all the cool features in addition.
@paulfree14 @ckeen @paulfree14 this does sound nice... I should look into that, as soon as I get home.
@paulfree14 @ckeen @b3yond
it sounds awsom :)
that's why I will continue tooting about it at least once per week.
everybody loves it, but not much ppl know about
@paulfree14 @paulfree14 Alas, why is all this stuff written in PHP... 😭
@paulfree14 @ckeen
I'm not a dev. but from what I've read about php is still a great choise.
why you don't like it?
@paulfree14 @paulfree14 From a language point of view it is unpleasant to work with, it's libaries have a weird and long history of exploitable bugs...
