I've given up on the idea of renting a motorcycle and riding down from #Melbourne to #MoonlitSanctuary this weekend before I return to the States, because it's likely going to be raining and riding safely on the left will be hard enough without adding rain to the mix.
So I've booked a Moonlit + #PhillipIsland bus tour instead. I've gotta do _something_ touristy while I'm here. I regret that I probably won't get to pet a Quokka.
Now that I've told coworkers and my wife that I've aborted the rent-a-motorcycle-in-Melbourne plan, they have made it clear that they thought the plan was ill-advised but opted out of respect not to say anything.
Spouse: "Great, now I won't have to worry and ask you to text to let me know you've arrived safely."
Coworker: "Wise choice - that road is pretty windy and narrow in places and would be treacherous on a good day on a motorcycle for someone unfamiliar with Australian conditions."
😜
@jik sadly not many quokkas in Victoria that I know of, I think only Melbourne zoo and Ballarat wildlife park which don’t allow touching animals. I hope Phillip island is great, they have very cute penguins
@joannaholman Moonlit Sanctuary has Quokkas, but there are a limited number of animal encounters per day with them and they're sold out for Saturday.
But who knows, the touring company I bought the tour from may have a special arrangement with Moonlit, so I imagine there's at least some chance I might get to have an "animal encounter" of _some_ kind while I'm there.
@jik the rain would definitely make things hard, but bicycling on the left is pretty straightforward. Have never motorcycled or even scootered on the left though.
