Report: A new UK study shows Gaza was a major reason for the collapse in support for Labour

Many people who voted Labour in 2024 switched to other parties in May's local elections:

40% voted Green; 30% LibDem; 11% Reform; & 9% Tory.

The findings indicate "the enormous significance the genocide continues to have in British politics".

@DrALJONES It's too bad Labour never had an intelligent, anti-genocide advocate for the oppressed that could have been party leader. It's still amazing to me that a party titled "Labour" could be so right wing, but it's happened here in Canada too, and most obviously the Democrats largely abandoned organized labour and pretty much all other principled stands on just about anything.

Re "It's too bad Labour never had an intelligent, anti-genocide advocate for the oppressed that could have been party leader."

Is that irony?

The job of Starmer, Mandelson, et al. was to purge Corbyn and the left from the party...

And, yes, oligarch-designed neoliberalism (via puppet pollies) repeated the purge in labour parties across the west.

@minentromaxinfo @DrALJONES

Very wealthy interests have filled the upper echelons of what was the Labour Party with their bought and paid for infiltrators.

Either the real party, that is the members at local level, will get rid of the gang at the top, or they will move to other parties.

The Greens don't look bad... and, of course, Plaid Cymru here in Wales.

@DrALJONES Labour losing it is not 'a pity'. It's good. Folks who support Israel and its genocide on Palestinians (and Lebanese and Iranians) heve no business governing the British people!

@DrALJONES

I feel like this entire discussion is happening outside of the concept of xenophobic immigration policy in both the US and UK.

@DrALJONES and still they not only do not condem or withdrawn from supplying anything to Israel that can be used against Gaza but villify anyone that raises their voice pointing out #genocide. #gaza #westbank #lebanon

@DrALJONES
austerity

genocide denial, zionism

xenophobia, islamophobia, racism

transphobia

authoritarianism (protest + internet)

going after people on benefits (not the fraudulent ones)

Labour had 60% of the seats, could've done anything they wanted, and they did all that

its not about Labour anymore, its just about pandering to right wing voters
