I found my audio interface, have plugged in one of my mics, and after ~7 years without it I've decided to just try a demo of the newest Reason. It has always been my favorite recording & music-making software. We'll see if it works well with my still-new laptop!
I have not recorded audio since 2019. This is a major attempt to reclaim a part of myself I used to really enjoy. My counselor is very proud, lol. I could still have a meltdown! I'm typing this all out loud to make the small commitment to try.

so far:
- a few years ago I bought a Rode Podmic, and idk. I love the NT1-A that I have, but all my stands are borken
- audiobox 96 is a little noisy regardless
- my now-ancient TubePre is giving a little hum, but without it the podmic is extremely quiet? like way quieter than I'd expect

:/

I gotta accept that I'm not in a pro studio and just want to record myself reading and talking. I also have Zero Money to buy anything else. so I just gotta make it work

I'm trying to remember what I did for YTS recordings; those were with NT1-As in a smaller room and a different interface

I am disheartened but I will try again later.

it just sucks to have had a surprisingly-Good Setup, and then basically Computer Updates and Entropy made it stop working.

I'm not an expert. I just liked what I had cobbled together

basically to get my old sound I'd need
- a new pre-amp
- a different audio box
- a new mic stand
- for my old mics to still work, which they might but they've been stored for a long time

but I'll probably just have to accept that things are noisier and not as open-sounding as I prefer, and live with it
i'm weary of rebuilding my life, with very few resources, again. but I will accept that the sound isn't perfect, if the alternative is to do nothing
