I've been a long time subscriber to #ProtonMail, long enough that it would be a big enough hassle to change email providers that I decided to contact their media address to ask them directly to explain themselves. I made it clear that I would take my business elsewhere if it wasn't suitably convincing. I'm not optimistic though. I know of #Tuta, what other #email providers are out there?

I'm relieved to see Proton's response.

Alternative e-mail providers in one infographic

Not sure if this belongs here or in self-hosting. I spent half the morning looking into alternative e-mail providers, after spotting this infographic on Mastodon. Haven’t actually tried making an account anywhere, but after reading through a bunch of websites and their terms of service, my favorite so far is Mailo, a service based in France with a no-nonsense offer and thoughtful provisions. Beware that some of the site isn’t translated. (Not a problem for me.) Runners-up were mail.com, an U...

@jump_spider I really like purelymail, although I'm aware it might not work for everyone's usecase
@jump_spider I tried Tuta, it's arse. I tried Fastmail and it seemed okay. I use a custom domain and I want my email provider to handle those. I wasn't able to find out from a Fastmail trial how well it does that! If you don't use a domain and just want An Email, Fastmail's probably fine. If Proton doesn't walk this back, I'll switch to the default webmail client from my domain provider. I'll lose the convenience of all domains in one inbox, but hey ho.
@ephemeromorph I hear ya, it's hard to test the features I need on a free account. Luckily it looks like Proton is owning their mistake, see the edit to my OP
