RE: https://nileane.fr/@nileane/116704285750838861

step 1: discover that Proton is sponsoring a famous fascist youtuber
step 2: write a short post to let people know and include screenshots as well so people can see for themselves
step 3: get insulted by desperate sad men who would rather scream that you're spreading fake news and find excuses than consider for even one second that yes, their favorite email provider is indeed partnering with fascist influencers

never change mastodon 👍

It's funny because many of these reply guys seem to assume that I care about Proton and/or finding an alternative to Proton
@nileane feels errr not a great response to me
@ljpuk feels generated by ChatGPT lol
@nileane yeah I think it must have been, these companies know what they are doing
@nileane @ljpuk the use case for lumo has finally been found: writing slop apologies for proton’s latest oopsie
@nileane pleasantly surprised for a change (i mean they don't state outright what the problem with this affiliation is, but at least they acknowledge and own the error)
@nileane “divide our community” none of these fucking people can call a spade a spade

@nileane Wow, that's an aGPTology if I've ever seen one.

@protonprivacy , if you wanna convey sincerity, maybe use an author capable of sincerity? Because machines aren't.

@nileane
Yeah, fascism is “just a point of view” according to these fuckers.

Good thing I moved to Disroot.

@nileane if this was the first time they did something like this, maybe I’d take this at face value but as the saying goes "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"
@nileane So they do zero vetting of the persons they partner with?  Not even looking up their wikipedia page? https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Lapierre
Vincent Lapierre — Wikipédia

@nileane Wow. Pleasantly surprised by them for once
@wonkothesane @nileane i mean the owner of proton is also far right and has some pretty gross viewa so...
@glassresistor @nileane Which is why I said pleasantly surprised. What is with people on the Fedi feeling the need to make the most asinine replies to people who aren’t talking to them
@wonkothesane @nileane wasnt mad just making sure thats on folks radar

@nileane

La réponse en soi est un peu bien. Maintenant s'ils pouvaient arrêter de vendre les militants aux flics ce serait la moindre des choses

@nileane “we’re sorry we got caught”

…again

@nileane wow for all the privacy and transparency shit they throw at Google and the other usual suspects… a post on their main socials would have gone a long way.

When is my proton VPN sub up for renewal again?

@nileane I guess that's something, but if not fully AI generated that's at least AI massaged. Of course I'd say YouTube shouldn't allow these videos in the first place...
@nileane looking forward to their explanation on why the censored all posts on the topic

@nileane "An affiliate or sponsorship arrangement is a transactional placement for awareness, not an endorsement of a creator's views."

Bull. Shit.

There are literally MANY millions of accounts on YouTube that you could have chosen to put your name next to.

You specifically chose this one. Which means you view their work as sufficiently aligned with yours as to give them money to keep doing what they're doing, while putting the eyes of their followers on you.

YOU chose to put your name next to a right-winger. So YOU considered YOUR work and theirs sufficiently aligned to warrant a partnership.

"Out team didn't have enough context". You mean, they didn't even Google the name and clicked on the first link, a Wikipedia entry clearly saying he's a far-right journalist?

So, you're either absolutely incompetent as a company or knowingly and purposefully support the far-right. Neither of those is a good look on you...

@nileane
I’m not sure, but the space before «We» kinda tells me that this is AI generated. For some reason I see that space in many AI generated texts. Nice of them to take action, though.
@kristian @nileane I think, it's an output of DeepL. I use it a lot (I'm french) and it's common to see this space before a paragraph.
@nileane "ok chatGPT, give me a quick way out of this mess"
@nileane Fair enough I guess?
@nileane LOL the uservoice post was removed.

@nileane An official answer here, finally!
https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/1u05xs2/comment/oqgihvq/

It does not look like the community is pleased with this.

@nileane you’d expect more positivity from Proton fans ⚛️
@nileane okay I feel somewhat called out here because I just asked the latter question, without trying to start an argument or attempting to dispute anything you have said. Genuine question: what should I have done differently?
@jvnknvlgl It's nothing personal. Perhaps something you could have done differently is look at the overall tone of the replies and see that I was already asked the same thing over and over quite a few times and I had already decided not to respond
@nileane that's fair enough, thanks.
@jvnknvlgl You could ask the question of your own followers or people who you know use Proton, rather than just a stranger with no skin in the game.
@jvnknvlgl i can share my thought process. i saw the post, got upset about proton not getting any better since that whole ceo thing, went to cancel subscription, and then searched for mail services (probably will go with Tuta). i didn’t expect Niléane to find answers for me. @nileane
@kym that's also fair. Though for clarification: I didn't expect anything either. My thought process was that a) people on here are often passionate about things and b) maybe there's an awesome service I don't know about yet. In Dutch we have a nice proverb: no is what you have, yes is what you can get (if you ask).
@jvnknvlgl got you. ask fedi is a good hashtag for crowd wisdom 8)
@nileane you don’t like Trump? Find us an alternative president then 😤😂
@shantini @nileane fun fact: Proton CEO had already stepped on dog shit last year by coming out in favor of Trump
@nileane I, for one, appreciate someone pointing out these discoveries, so I can make informed decisions about applications I use/support and store my personal data...
@nileane thank you for your service and sorry for the bullshit
@nileane they probably also don’t believe that attempting to implement secure email in PHP is at best just making your life difficult for no reason and more likely, in active conflict with the goal. And therefore that in all likelihood, Proton is probably less secure than most other providers.
@OneSadCookie @nileane It is a fraud. Always has been.
@nileane entre ça et le courriel de Good Old Games avec le symbole SS dans le sujet, mauvaise journée pour les "entreprises éthiques"
@nileane the sadly increasingly-common Proton L

@nileane

One of the C level officers is also a bit of a Tump apologist. He was caught using the "Hitler got the Autobahns built" logical fallicy.

@nileane teachers explaining the business model of commercial social media and the impact on personal health and society oversee the same reaction in some of the teenagers in their class.
