I'm well on the way through my re-watch of ST:DS9, and though I still think it's the best of the franchise, I also think that the Jem'Hadar, supposedly the ultimate genetically optimized fighters in the galaxy, are actually pretty crap.

I like the Vorta though. They're so slimy.

@MojoBob This is the trek which contains Garak, my personal all-time favourite Trek character. #Plain #Simple #Garak

@jsr @MojoBob I like Garak, but… when I started watching DS9 a few years ago I got about halfway and just petered out. My heart just sank every time I started an episode and it turned out to be a Ferengi one. I am not interested in exploring the question of what if there were aliens who were antisemitic stereotypes except their ears were big instead of their noses.

Maybe there are more Garak episodes later, but the ratio of Garak to Quark is way too low in the first… I think I watched four seasons.

I am aware that I may have become a bit of a bore on this point, but what were they thinking with all the Ferengi episodes?

@isaacfreeman @MojoBob According to interviews, they were attempting to stress that capitalism, especially unrestrained capitalism, is Bad.

@jsr That would have been an interesting angle, if their idea of capitalism had been developed a bit further than ugly sneaky Jewish swindlers.

It could have been worse. They didn't do blood libel. Or have the Ferengi kill the Bajoran messiah. But it still felt like I was expected to buy into some Nazi shit.

Sorry, I know it's your favourite.
