Guys, we knew screw worm was headed north. We knew it would get here, absent profound mitigation efforts. We CHOSE to not help Mexico control it. We CHOSE to not prepare. We could have been producing and releasing millions of sterile flies daily, at a cost much less than the collapse of the Texas beef industry, but again, we CHOSE to focus on racist nazi nonsense instead. Trump, Abbot, and their goons own this, full stop. (Also, fuck the guys who voted for their own demise…)

@mcnado I mean, we stopped consuming cattle products when the industry in the US showed they were just gonna ignore bird flu in cattle. So yeah, not surprised at all new/old fuckery is afoot in that industry.

@mcnado @Vanalope I lived in the UK for 6 months in the mid 1980s. Was always rejected as a potential blood donor although I still don’t have any symptoms (or do I?) Prions?

Yes, prions. I believe that in the US that particular ban (based on time spent in UK) has been lifted, however (at least it no longer shows in the Red Cross reasons for rejection)
