Reminder:
The best recent animated show I've seen is 'Predator: Hunter Of Hunters'.
Yeah, it's 3D... but done in a very stylish painterly style.

* Thinks for a moment.
I think my most recent animated show that the artwork was wow-y, for me, was Arcane League of Legends.
@Kitty I was actually just about to post about that.
It's so impressive... but the two seasons cost $250 million to make.
I think most other series simply cannot match what Arcane did, but also ... did Arcane ever make its money back?
@troberts Holy cow! However, it was truly visually epic, and won me over so much.
Okay, cheaper budget but still lovely artwork Castelvania
@Kitty I do like Castlevania. They are produced by an American animation studio named Powerhouse Animation, and they are usually very good.
Especially when it comes to a big action scene, they often knock it out of the park.
Ohhh! Side track, if that's okay. Black Snow. Oh man! I binge watched the first series last weekend. (It's several years old now)
@pelicangut Rotoscoping is interesting.
I'm gonna be strict and say no.
The main thing is that animation is derived from the raw footage, rather than been created from scratch by an animater.
What I really love about 2D animation is how the movement of its characters can be so amazing and evocative. Not bounded by reality.
Rotoscoping often tethers the animation back to the mundane movement of our world..
