Wrote a good section of my discussion today. FEELS GOOD! Now getting ready for a delivery shift #Deliverator #PhDLife
I still love scribbling on paper. I think the best this way #PhDLife
They started as scribbles and ended up like this: #PhDLife
@SeaFury At a rough guess, weโ€™re looking at maps of areas where climate may remain somewhat stable vs major changes?
@sendai They are the location where if you use different climate data in simulations, they are the same, or vastly different. So the red bits are where you can't be guaranteed an accurate result. The green bits are relative safe to use "whatever data you want"
@SeaFury I can write well enough on a computer, but I really like pen & notebook. Showing my age, probably.

@SeaFury

your maps of oz are not too badly distorted โ€” you have included TASSIE which is more than most maps do ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

as for me, I agree, the only way to think is on paperโ€ฆ
tho NOT PhD Life, and rarely with diagrams.
there is freedom in being able to link ideas with lines, and see changes made

@maudenificent Ooh, and with such a lovely pen, too! What is it?

@teadrinker
The brand is TWSBI (pronounced twisbee)

The principal place of manufacture is Taiwan

i tried a few different styles of pen, but finally decided this is my favourite:
it holds a lot of ink - depending on the model, of course
(it used to drive me mad having to refill pens every few pages)

the plunger action is built in (no cartridges adding to landfill)

easy to fill

doesnโ€™t seem to dry out if i donโ€™t use it every day (tho i do use them all the time)

my preferred nib style is STUB

there are much prettier fountain pens out there, but this model is a workhorse
โœ๐Ÿป

@maudenificent It looks like quite a fat pen, too, is that right? Because I find it so much easier to write with something like that than a really slim one.

I've got a Pilot and it's fine, and a couple of Lamys which are also not bad. So I don't actually *need* a new one...

@teadrinker

LOL โ€œneedโ€ is a great word, innit?

yes, itโ€™s something solid to grab hold of., and doesnโ€™t leave me with cramped hands
The model is 580 DIAMOND ALR

I have half a dozen LAMY pens
the safaris are quite cheap to buy and are great if I am writing slabs of text, but the nib tends to dry out too quickly between uses for my liking

@maudenificent Yes, I've noticed that about the Safaris too. I keep having to soak the nibs
@teadrinker @maudenificent I used a LAMY calligraphy pen, Broad, 1.5 in purple LAMY ink. If we are going to be writing by hand, we do it PROPERLY!

@SeaFury Ooh, I do love a fat nib too. Didn't realise Lamy did a calligraphy nib! I've got two bottles of Iroshizuku ink and I loooove them

@maudenificent

@SeaFury shit! Fuck, someone else stole my idea @teadrinker @maudenificent
@maudenificent Go Tassie GOOOOO! You good thing
@SeaFury Same. And it's also much easier for me to remember stuff when I can write it down.
