It seems like every person born before 1980 has a baby photo of them being bathed in a kitchen sink and I have a theory that most of it stopped when people got dishwashers and realized it was a much more convenient way to clean their children.
@Alice Same but that's when drive-through car washes became popular

@Alice born 1970, no photos of me being bathed in the kitchen sink.

I must say your post is hilarious!

@Quilty Ooh! Your parents must have been early adopters of the dishwasher!
@Alice actually my parents never had a dishwasher, my dad always said he had four dishwashers. Me and my brothers. Yes he knew he was hysterical. 🙄😂

@Quilty @Alice Gosh darn it Lisa, I came here to same exactly the same thing. You beat me to it.

No such photos for me either.

Maybe they just let the dogs and cats lick me clean.

@pseudonym @Alice I had plenty of dog and cat bathes too. 🤣🤣🤣

@pseudonym @Quilty @Alice
ditto no kitchen sink photos

there is a pic of me in a bucket in the garden though..

saves water?

@Alice lol not me!

I'm bathed in mini-plastic bathtub put in a bathtub

@grum999 Oh my gosh this is so cute!
@Alice saves time undressing if you use the washing machine
@rupertcutler @Alice also that has a window, unlike the dishwasher

@Alice Sinks got smaller I'm sure. My grandparents sink is blooming massive. You can fit the big saucepan for batch cooking like 10 servings in there, plus a few other bits.

The sink in the modern build I live in, washing that pan is a 3 stage process

@Alice born in '88 but my parents are quite old-fashioned and still don't have a dishwasher. My dad has suggested it on occasion, only for my mum to shut him down 😄
I love how this toot is going around again. The photo is also a brilliant example of how incredibly brown everything was in the 80s.
@Alice here’s another good one!

@Alice @donmelton so wait… that’s legit? Just toss em in with the Tupperware and add some J&J no more tears!?!?

I have been doin’ wrong this whole time!

No wonder my 17yo gets so pissed when I toss her in the sink…

@Alice When did garbage disposals become popular?
@Alice
Dishwashers are very handy, but the babies get restless waiting for them to fill up.
@Alice actually it was the clothes washer/dryer.

@Alice

My family had a full-size portable top loader dishwasher in the 60’s. When not in use it was stored in a closet across the hall from the kitchen.

When it was rolled out, we kids would scatter to avoid doing dishes. Now I realize I’ve been misremembering all these years—we didn’t want a bath.

@Alice Sink! Sink! You think we could afford a sink! We had to wait until it rained and we could use the puddles.
@johnelalamo Puddles?! You were lucky! We had to roll around in gravel untill t'dirt rubbed off.
@adamu Do you remember the mice picketing for better conditions? Tough! We thought knives and forks were jewellery?
PS I remember using this in the States and someone going:”Oh my God, how awful”😀
@Alice Family never owned camera except when Dad had USAF camera for two years in Puerto Rico (1947-48). He only took photos of his travels and their friends and family, but rarely us kids. I acquired some after he died.
@Alice always hated the dishwasher, it's like 20 minutes without breathing AND THEN it smells awful
@Alice Don't recommend. The abrasive particles in dishwasher detergent will wear down the protective coating on a baby's skin
@Alice I can clearly remember it happening.
I think it ended with the stainless steel sinks.
Too small

@Alice

Our boys were born in 1993 / 6. Unfortunately we did not acquire a dishwasher until 2007, so guess what? The sink it was.

@Alice @stavvers

That would have been SOOOO much easier! 🤣🤣🤣

@Alice will have to ask my Mom if she remembers where they bathed me as there's no photographic evidence. 😂 But they never bought into dishwashers so there's a chance. 👀
@Alice Not a kitchen sink but an actual zinc tub.(Born in 1958.)
@Alice I actually remember being bathed in a sink with a neighbour in her moms hour or mine? I guess we got dirty and it was easier to wash us quickly in the kitchen sink!
@Alice Born in 1976, can confirm.
@Alice Probably, but the real reason the photos stopped is because there is no window in the dishwasher door.
@Alice this post is the perfect amoubt of hinged.
@Alice my kid was born 2019 and we regularly bathed him in the kitchen sink, but we didn't take photos of him bathing...
@Alice nah it changed when people got garbage disposals in their sinks
@Alice
To my knowledge there are none of me in a kitchen sink. I didn't bathe any of mine in the sink either.
@Alice what they don't tell you is that you're not meant to use the steel pot scourer
@Alice not every house still has a dishwasher I bet the coverage is 85%
@Alice
It seems like every person I follow is going to boost this toot, perhaps until the heat-death of the universe.
@Alice alternatively, garbage disposals became more popular...
@Alice I had to hold the tableware to save time and water.
@Alice Whereas kids born a few years ago went straight into the sous vide cooker
@Alice
“Your baby has gone down the plug-hole
Your baby has gone down the plug
The poor little thing was so skinny and thin
It should have been washed in a jug
Your baby is ever so happy
He won’t need a bath any more
Your baby has gone down the plug-hole
Not lost but gone before.”
@Alice
Well, YEAH. I mean, how the hell do YOU clean your children?
Technology is our friend. And there's a lot less mess left to clean up (ie: poop) in a functional dishwasher.
If you're already on board with this, meaning I have misinterpreted your post, please disregard this, with my apology
