Just how much did the Chemical Brothers pinch for 'Hey Boy Hey Girl'???

Anyway...Praga Khan wasn't happy!

Lords Of Acid - I Sit On Acid

@robchapman chemical brothers never did exceed The Setting Sun.
@sim That's probably a good place for anyone exploring 'The Chemical Brothers' to start from and work backwards
@robchapman guess there's a market in taking really catchy tracks and making them more family friendly.
@zeyus I've been digging into this 'I sit on Acid - Hey Boy Hey Girl's track a bit more, because the original on the LoA Album Lust, from 88 isn't like that. However, I learned after doing some research that back in 98/99 Praga khan was performing 'I sit on Acid' live with that catchy riff, then The Chemical Brothers released Hey Boy Hey Girl' Khan accused them of plagiarism. LoA then released 'I Sit On Acid 2000' with THAT riff, so that video is actually original footage with the new release
@zeyus as for who coped whom... dance music samples and resamples, creating music from music, always has always will , so I guess we'll never really know for certain

@robchapman yeah, and I always feel like there's a fine line to tread. There's a difference (in my opinion) between taking something someone else made and pretending it's yours, especially if you take it from a less popular artist, vs sampling something, remixing it, making it into something new.

There are also just moments in culture where certain motifs reign supreme. I have my own that I pivot around for a long time :D

@zeyus Absolutely.
Praga Khan isn't unknown, he's an incredibly talented musician (ie:'Injected with a Poison)
I guess if you are visiting popular music from 99/2000 you're more likely to have heard of the Chemical Brothers.

I liked Lords of Acid from when I was 16 (I remember that song particularly appealing to me and my mates because subject matter and 'horny teenagers mix') I think maybe khan was about to release, but wasn't quick enough and the rest is a spat that lives on in EDM lore

@robchapman Haha tell me about it, my introduction to Lords of Acid was from the soundtrack to one of these early 90s motorcross VHS tapes...
It was either Crusty Demons of Dirt, or a similar style tape - basically a bunch of songs with people doing things that at the time were very extreme on motorcycles.

The track they used was Young Boys from Voodoo-U , I guess I was around 13 or so...it made my (former) conservative christian self feel things...as an adult, I can't say I feel so positive about that particular song though.

@zeyus For me it is just a song, written to shock some people. it doesn't carry the same impact now that it did back then - I guess doing life helps.
Perhaps it might think WTF! if I was a parent and heard my kid blasting it from their bedroom. I can't actually remember my parents saying anything about it, though I am certain they probably thought, or did think WTF, when they heard it blasting from mine 🤣 but were wise enough to remember they were young once too
