La puntata di martedì 5 maggio di È sempre Cartabianca, su Rete 4, si apre con il consueto dialogo tra la conduttrice Bianca Berlinguer e lo scrittore Mauro Corona. Si parla della morte di Alex Zanardi, che l'autore e alpinista aveva conosciuto ("un uomo di una dolcezza unica e di bontà"), ma anche delle varie tensioni internazionali.
Corona viene chiamato a commentare la vicenda della seconda spedizione della Global Sumud Flotilla, fermata dalla marina israeliana all'altezza dell'isola di Creta con vari attivisti trattenuti in Israele. "È ammirevole questo riprovarci della Flotilla, sapendo bene che non otterranno nulla, ma probabilmente otterranno l'attenzione di nuovo su Gaza che è andata completamente dispersa". Tuttavia, avverte lo scrittore, "questi ragazzi devono anche stare attenti perché lì non vanno da mezze misure. Gente come Netanyahu non ha problemi, e non vorrei che capitasse un altro caso Regeni, perché quelli non scherzano".
Il discorso si accende ulteriormente quando Berlinguer mostra le immagini della torta di compleanno del ministro israeliano Itamar Ben Gvir con su disegnato un cappio, in riferimento alla legge sulla pena di morte per chi "attenta all'esistenza dello Stato d'Israele", ossia i "terroristi palestinesi". Lo scrittore a scanso di equivoci ribadisce: "È indicibile, fare una torta di compleanno col cappio. È per quello che dico: attenzione, perché lì impiccano e anche quei ragazzi della Flotilla sono molto a rischio con quel personaggio, anche se non oseranno perché sono all'attenzione del mondo". E ancora su Ben Gvir: "Spero gli mettano il cappio a lui", ribadisce con Berlinguer che passa ad altro argomento.
