I'm really impressed with how well these leeks are growing but I'm not entirely convinced that the flower head is going to be all that impressive given the size of the flower bud so far..... 🤔🤷‍♂️

@JeffsNakedLife Are you growing the leeks for the flower of the vegetable?
@nakedgerry in this particular experiment for the flower on the recommendations of a Bluesky follower who's since blocked me for my naturist or exhibitionist posts 😱🤭

@JeffsNakedLife Oh dear! What can I say? I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to keep doing what you love and know is natural and normal.

The reason I was asking was that (as you probably already know) leeks for consumption need to be blanched but, presumably, not if you only want the flower.

@nakedgerry Thank you & yes indeed, I love gardening and enjoy the wonders of nature 😍

Why do they need to be blanched? I've always used the whole of the plant when I buy them including the green parts.

Hope you are enjoying The warm weather, it's so good to be naked outdoors & indoors without feeling cold 😊

@JeffsNakedLife The green part is usually tough and the white part tender so blanching (see https://www.rhs.org.uk/vegetables/leeks/grow-your-own) gives you more of the tender white leek.

Leeks are tasty winter vegetables that are easy to grow but need time and attention. Read more on how to grow your own here on RHS

@JeffsNakedLife Yes, I'm certainly enjoying the warm weather and being naked indoors and outdoors is very liberating. I have to do some shopping this morning so will need to dress later but will be glad to strip off when I get home.
@nakedgerry same here, have got dressed as we're going to the gym now but will be naked as soon as we're back home again.

@JeffsNakedLife Just back and getting naked was such a relief!

@nakedgerry I can imagine, we've been to the gym & done some shopping. Heading home & can't wait to get naked again too.

@nakedgerry are you referring to blanched as in being cooked or covered up to make them white?

I've always cooked leeks, never eaten them raw.

@JeffsNakedLife I meant covered to make them white - I'm not sure I would eat raw leeks although I do like them cooked in butter.
@nakedgerry fair enough tbh it's not economical to grow them, like carrots, it's easier to buy them they're cheap enough.
@JeffsNakedLife And, unless you are really into growing your own vegetables, I think leeks would be too much effort.
