I suppose it was inevitable, but it's a sad day for #retrocomputing projects needing 5V parallel flash memory in DIP packages.

#DigiKey indicates EOL for these #Microchip parts, with lifetime buy date of 2026-07-01:

SST39SF010A-70-4C-PHE (1 Mibit, 128 Kibyte)
SST39SF020-70-4C-PHE (2 Mibit, 256 Kibyte) SST39SF040-70-4C-PHE (4 Mibit, 512 Kibyte)

I haven't checked whether the 3.3V or non-DIP package variants are also EOL.

@brouhaha ah I'm not seeing any indication it's the flash themselves this time, just the DIP packaging, so that's not such a disaster.

I had a panic when I saw the TSOP ones had already gone obsolete, but that's because they migrated to a new slightly different package a couple of years ago for RoHS reasons!

@brouhaha Non DIP packages seem to be OK for now. So although nasty, you can still make a TSOP to PDIP adapter PCB.

BTW I use their TSOP chips for my OpenSource SEGA Master System and GameGear carts, hope they survive for many more years πŸ˜
