Deep Dive 3: Surviving Slop

Slop has been around longer than Suno.

Last night I posted a poem and song that was written quickly and the song, made in Suno Pro was total slop. I posted it anyway. Why? I gave this little thought but was really wanting to do a post without racking my brain to much as it was later in the night. Hence the slop song.

How many times in life have you written a poem and found at the end it just didn’t cut the mustard? Before the internet I used erasers [the little thing on top of a #2 pencil] to magically make the slop disappear and write it again and again until it felt right. When I liked what I had made it found it’s way into the keep it file, a box of cluttered thoughts on paper tucked away to be read a thousand times by only me.

I still have that box and it is stuffed with one liners or poems half finished. Dawn gave me the inspiration and courage to start publishing my poetry on WordPress and then to offer them up on platforms like SpillWords. Thanks my friend. After putting two books together I learned many things and boosted my confidence leading me into the future. Evidently slop remains in my repertoire and shows itself as such.

The thing is this; Everybody writes slop sooner or later. Making slop and making money off of slop are two different things and should be separated as such. I think this is the problem with AI assisted music. I have made some songs that to me are damn good [does that make me conceited?]

I have not released these songs outside of the Dawghouse Dive. I want the world to know what I am doing with AI and accept it for what it is. I will release these when I feel I am covered within the laws of copyright issues. I just want to make sure the con artists aren’t taking my stuff and changing a title or word and trying to make money from it by suing for copyright infringement.

What makes that so different than what real musicians do? Exactly!

With that said I will say this about my journey. I purchased a new microphone yesterday and will have it by Friday. I’m stoked about this as now I can start training my voice for recording and find out if I have what it takes to sound decent enough to continue on this path. If not will I keep going? Hell to the yes, at least until my subscription to Suno runs out. I still will own the Mixcraft DAW and learning that is time consuming to say the least. I watch hours of videos and read tons of articles trying to learn how to use this program. It is teaching me a lot on the direction I am heading in.[Note to CUZ]: I can now tell you what chords I am producing these songs in along with BPM’s. Hit me up.

That’s about it for today as I want to enjoy this rainy warm day relaxing without doing a lot of typing, enjoy life my friends.
