there will be tons of job for de-vibing code bases made out of AI slop mess, after AI slop crash happend in near future

@nixCraft

Better yet, starting from scratch...

I think I found my consultancy niche 👍

@nixCraft

I think a lot of the companies will be out of business therefore not needing to refactor anything

@nixCraft With programmers asking for 2x or more annual salary, and other benefits.

As FRAM used to say...
'You can pay me now, or a lot later'

@nixCraft there will be tons of jobs for lawyers suing companies for breaches of privacy and information leakage
@nixCraft I call this The Great Rewriting
you’ve read it here first
@usuario @nixCraft there will be no rewriting, just like companies are not refactoring today.
@nixCraft Job prospects for coders have never looked better <3
@nixCraft After most of us are out on the streets.
@nixCraft and for professional writers to clean up the documentation. Then the architects, testers and project management.

@nixCraft

going to be a lot like cleaning up the burning kuwaiti oil fields after desert storm, good money but definitely earning. also, judicious use of explosives may be the most efficient way to put the fire out. ;)

@paul_ipv6 @nixCraft I say just roll the code back
@nixCraft Is that before or after everyone de-reacts all the websites that never needed to be a react app?
@nske @nixCraft de-reacting a site right now as we speak. Manager threw up his hands, said "untangle this unholy mess so that I can actually update it" and here we are.
@nixCraft I am not going to mention any names, but there was a giant corporation in the US that traded in oil and polluted the waters with giant oil spills, and then formed an environmental division to clean it up (for a hefty fee, of course).

I have a distinct feeling that you have an overfascination for LLM slop and hallucinated AI

Relax take a deep breath, drop down your ❤️ rate, chill

@nixCraft

@nixCraft I'm still waiting for this crash... I'm tired of managers having only the word "AI" in their mouths and enforcing it in any workflow and process

@nixCraft yeah, i figure there's two ways to play software these days.

option one, you put quality first, all the time, it is the core of everything.

option two, you compete with the entire world to have the sloppiest slop thrown out to the world the soonest and cheapest, erasing all your customer loyalty and competitive differentiation ... and then, your margins.

@tomoyo @nixCraft

Option one, go broke

Option two, get rich

@worik @nixCraft see you say that, and maybe you can attract investment and make cashmoney at the IPO, and maybe even clean up later, but that's probabalistic chance at success at best and your firm is full of people from the slop culture; that's hard to change.

your competitors can LLM a service up just as well as you, agents can migrate your customers off your platform, agentic buyers will care little about the power of your brand, and your moat is all gone

@tomoyo @nixCraft

I agree, but playing devil's advocate...

If you write secure reliable software you cannot attract investment and make cashmoney at the IPO. The AI slop merchants will eat your lunch.

In the end Free Software will triumph, but looking at the example of operating systems where the worst sell best, and the Free Software OSes are the best and sell worse, is informative

In the long run quality wins, in the long run we are all dead

@tomoyo @nixCraft

This has always been the way. Everyone starts by wanting to do it right, then the scope creeps and the deadline doesn't move so they have to just get it working.

Tech debt

@nixCraft can't wait! Grab popcorn!
@nixCraft Not if it takes away from #TechBros profits!
@nixCraft the worry is that those vibe coded failures will be so catastrophic that there won't be a company left to hire anyone after they get €5b GDPR fine when some Agentic Artificial Idiot sends healthcare records to a North Korean blackmail farm.

@nixCraft

job listings will call it:

Deslopifier

@nixCraft There really will... It's going to take a lot of work to fix and there are going to be a lot of bosses practically on their knees begging people to come back.

Everyone fired, if you even consider going back, make sure they pay you a lot more, provide benefits, etc etc.

Of course, really it's the higher ups that need to be out of their jobs for forcing it where it doesn't belong and for firing or forcing all the people out who could have kept it from getting like this in the first place. Those people are always going to be fooled by the latest scams unfortunately...

@nixCraft @Binder Maybe. But only if we can weather the next few years. Not everyone will be able to, and will leave the industry. Which will probably mean whoever is left can charge even more. It’s bitter sweet, if it happens at all.
