Report: 500+ arrested defying Palestine Action ban in London.

"The protesters - many grey-haired & frail - were seen being hauled away, while some were led leaning on crutches. A number of the demonstrators were dressed as Suffragettes".

Former Palestine Action hunger strikers were also present. "Look how many police are here, just for elderly people holding placards. It's a joke. The state is a joke”, said Heba Muraisi.

@DrALJONES I happened to be in London on Saturday, passing by Trafalgar Square. The number of police vans I saw lined up along Pall Mall was astonishing. It must have been over 100.

@hmallett @DrALJONES

Does anybody know the true figure for the number of arrests at this demo ? The French media reported it (as here) at 500+, but the UK media said 200+. Why the difference ?

@Geri

@GeofCox @hmallett @DrALJONES the figure of 200+ was an initial release given midafternoon. The final figure of the Metropolitan Police is 523.

Defend Our Juries have not, as of yet, cross-referenced that to those who committed themselves to being arrested

Besides central London, there were some ppl arrested in Hastings, whilst a couple sat undisturbed in Truro with the self same signs

@Geri

Thanks Geri - you always have the facts.
There's still a bit of a question though, because the 500+ figure was reported here in France while the UK media was still using the 200+ figure.

@hmallett @DrALJONES

@GeofCox @hmallett @DrALJONES sadly, it is fairly common for the Met Police to give an interim value rather than a final value.

This serves no real purpose
