My 'two that got away' in old IT were the Epson PX-8 laptop - glorious keyboard - and the Cambridge Z88, Clive Sinclair at his finest, and a machine you could use for a month on a pair of AAs.

As regards #headfi the hifi shop warned we when I asked to audition three sets of 'phones of increasing budgets, "Really - don't listen to the Utopias: you'll be disappointed by anything else". I ignored their advice. You can guess where that got me 🤣

@blingoali Hah excellent. I’m afraid I can’t commit to your strict condition though; I’m an accomplished enabler 😂

I haven’t auditioned any high end headphones for a long time for this reason; I’ve been happy with my HD-650s for years 👍🏼

Once you get something you're happy with, diminishing returns really kick in. For me, I'm two months away from my allotted three-score-and-ten, so my hearing is probably declining at a faster rate than hifi is improving!

Our 15 year-old Naim, Linn, PMC set-up, plus slightly newer Violectric headphone amp suits me fine and will probably see me out. Maybe… 😁

@blingoali I have some Linn too. Bloody lovely stuff and I shaln’t need to upgrade that any time soon!
