*I think Eby's the current, problematic BC politician in Premier power role. The core problem is that #BCNDP haven't really respected #IndigenousRights for a long time. Their caucus became too whipped under Horgan & that's continued under Eby - who was groomed by the former neoliberal in charge of BC policies.*

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs says the NDP has a “colossal” leadership problem, and if it doesn’t move on from Premier David Eby, the party could be doomed for decades. “I think the problem is Premier Eby,” he said at a Friday morning news conference in Vancouver held by Indigenous leaders opposed to a proposed suspension of parts of the Declaration on the Rights of #IndigenousPeoples Act (DRIPA).

Phillip spoke alongside the #FirstNations Leadership Council, which is made up of members of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations, the First Nations Summit and the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. The groups held a joint news conference in Vancouver on Friday (April 10), slamming the B.C. NDP government’s DRIPA suspension plan, a move the council had called a “unilateral betrayal” on Thursday. #DRIPA is a 2019 B.C. law that formally commits the province to aligning its laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ( #UNDRIP ), which affirms the right to #SelfDetermination for #Indigenous peoples worldwide.

‘The problem is Premier Eby’: B.C. NDP’s leadership taken to task over DRIPA

Indigenous leaders voice opposition to DRIPA suspension plan

Replacing one neoliberal capitalist with a younger neoliberal capitalist, only guarantees you have a younger, more energetic neoliberal capitalist. All of the above selfish neoliberals are just fine with screwing over you/other citizens & Indigenous communities - if doing so helps them to gain more backroom bribes/personal financial gains/social status benefits.

@PhoenixSerenity

This seems to highlight that the problem is *not* M Eby, per se. It is corruption, primarily based in the economic system.

The wealth disparity results in greater pressures at all levels of society. Not only is there greater *need* to do anything/everything to become financially secure, there is also the unacknowledged fear you may be targeted by the wealthy if you do not do what they want.

E.g. Jody Wilson-Raybould.

@Amgine That's pretty much why unfettered capitalism is killing people & ecosystems. I was getting into degrowth mindset a few decades ago because of concerns about what you've mentioned - a system where political corruption is built in/dependent on infinite growth. A system where eco/social justice is denied more often than not.

I know/have worked with Bill Wilson, Jody's Dad. The government screwed them both over, multiple times, multiple ways. There is justified distrust of government.

@PhoenixSerenity

Exactly. In a way, M Eby is as much a victim as the rest of us.

But no one who has observed his work since becoming Premier has any trust for him.

@Amgine I do not consider highly privileged white politicians, who are also millionaires - on same involuntary victims level as average citizens. I definitely don't put those privileged politicians anywhere close to same levels as highly marginalized citizens with little to zero social status quo privileges. I consider highly privileged people, like him, as actively complicit of crimes against humanity. I hate government more because I used to work within government. We all have personal choice powers - even under shit systems. Our own choices end up defining our character. Integrity is important.

Privileged people, in public power policy positions, like him, have much more powers to choose to do better & they still choose not to do better. They aren't rowing in same civilian canoes.

@PhoenixSerenity

M Eby once upon a time led the Pivot Legal Society, performing pro-bono work for people living in Vancouver's east side. He thought he could effect more change working inside government.

It seems to me he changed, rather than government.

@Amgine I know. That's back when I used to do a lot of good work with him. I lost respect for him, quite a few years ago.

@Amgine My biggest problem with Eby is due to mostly knowing him more when he did civil liberties legal work. He knowingly opted to become Horgan's best guy, willing to be groomed by that demon of a human - fully knowing that his kingmaker boss was a fucking sleazebucket, lacking humility & humanity. Eby never actually had to sell his soul out. I lost all respect for him because he chose to sell his soul out, without needing to do so.

#BCpoli #Turncoat #CDNpoli #Sellouts

@Amgine Eby & I worked together, fighting government corruption from BC Liberals in 90s into early 2000s. With DTES social issues to environmental protest issues to multiple human rights violations by government issues. I was really fucking pissed off, when that sellout turncoat opted to go full neoliberal. It felt like a suckerpunch!

#BCpoli #CDNpoli #Sellouts #ConMen

@Amgine @PhoenixSerenity I don't think of Eby as victim so much as a sell-out to the relevant capitalists, the BC NDP party officers, who are mainly fracking lobbyists if memory serves, and who manipulate the party leadership elections to get a leader they like. Gross!

@beandreams
Same here. I consider true victims to be folks without much privileges or very little to zero, longterm financial security.

@Amgine

@PhoenixSerenity @Amgine A part of the issue is that people don't seem to connect "2% growth per year" with exponential growth (which it is). Even growing by a constant amount per year (say $500,000) will eventually tax the ecosystem as well as any social systems.

People need to realize that
(1) In the very long run, growth must be zero when averaged across all endevors: to grow anything we must shrink something else, and
(2) having broken rule (1) for quite a while now, we likely need to SHRINK to fit our ecosystems.

That means that the average return on investment needs to be 0%. If someone thinks it should be higher, they need to show what will shrink to accommodate their growth.

@PhoenixSerenity thats exactly what has repeatedly happened in Britain since 1997 (some recent prime ministers including our first British Asian PM have even been younger than myself, and Sunak was a complete fucking disaster)
@PhoenixSerenity I would be curious, in a celebrity gossip way, what happened between Eby the social justice lawyer for Pivot Legal and Eby the face of neoliberal energy projects in BC
@beandreams I have a few things to spill on that front because I knew him more back in his civil liberties lawyer days. He's a muthafucking sellout soul.
@beandreams I didn't sign an NDA.

@beandreams NDAs are weaponized too much. Hope more people refuse to sign BS NDA paperwork. I call em - Justice be silenced contracts. Fucking BS.

Another reason I'm absolutely hated by government folks. Fuck em.

@beandreams Later this year, I'm meeting with several Canadian civil liberties lawyers & fellow social justice paralegals to discuss writing a government bill to make signing NDAs illegal - if they're part n parcel of resigning from work due to ethical, moral & greater goods for humanity. This is overdue legislation & not a single politician has advocated nor campaigned with this on their political power moving agendas. This is a grassroots citizens agenda. It is overdue.

@PhoenixSerenity I love that!
@beandreams We can complain endlessly & do shit all else. We can still complain endlessly, while getting some shit done. I prefer doing the latter ✊️💚
@PhoenixSerenity I think both things can be true. Eby is a sellout and the NDP has a history of shooting themselves in the dick as far as indigenous relations go. Maybe I'm reading too much into it given a certain CBC piece that dropped recently about RCMP meddling with First Nations establishment in BC, but it does make me wonder if there's a reason the NDP has that history.
@disorderlyf It's had a shitty history with Indigenous communities here for decades. Their reputation with Indigenous is no better than former BC Liberals. In fact, many POC/Indigenous consider BC NDP worse because BC Liberals were more upfront about how they didn't give a fuck about anything more than increasing capitalism interests. While BC NDP tried whitewashing/greenwashing their BS - while being mega capitalist asshats. More old growth cutblocks were logged under BC NDP than in entirely of BC Liberals regime in BC. Both of them are full of toxic shit.
@disorderlyf RCMP CIRG was created by Horgan/former BC NDP dictator.
@PhoenixSerenity Okay, this in particular makes me even more sus about BC's NDP
@disorderlyf Current BC NDP are fascist adjacent, neoliberals. Groomed & whipped by Horgan. I first started hating Horgan in his casino lobbyists lying days. Before he became BC Premier. I never trusted that shady muthafucker.
