Does anyone have an idea why the Dell WD19TB does not support video via USB-C and HDMI at the same time? I don't want to use two USB connectors but it seems the only way that I can run two displays with different connectors (in addition to the laptop display)
@Cookiemonster Make sure that both your laptop and cable support MST. You might need to update the firmware on the WD19TB. It does support MST, so it should explicitly support the config that you are trying to make work.
@thunfisch thanks for the tips. I'm currently updating the dell drivers.
Both laptops (Framework 13 with Devuan, Dell Latitude 5350 with Windows) show the same behaviour, so I guess it is a problem of the dockingstation
@thunfisch and of course the update will only run on windows because dell requires snap on linux (which currently is not installed)
@thunfisch the solution was: use a Displayport-to-DVI adapter. As far as I understood the Display via USB-C uses DP, so I had the hope that changing from HDMI-port to DP would work - and it did 🙂
@Cookiemonster Huh, really interesting, not what I would have expected. Usually the HDMI outputs on USB-C docks are down converted from DisplayPort internally, because USB-C HDMI Alt-Mode kind of exists, but in reality no one is using it. Wondering what the topology of the WD19TB looks like internally, and why that made a difference. Thanks for sharing :)
