I don't understand this

#Germany's reckoning for #WWII was large

But #Japan's was not

Thus Japan continues to have issues on the topic

But it's just so fucking stupid. There's nothing to gain from an incomplete reckoning

It's just so nasty

@benroyce

Let them howl

@chu

stupid assholes

just admit culpability

it's large and obvious and well-documented the crimes of imperial japan

but no

because why?

vile nationalists, the problem with every country in the world. and for the sake of the ignorance and bigotry of such losers, Japan will continue to suffer for it

self-inflicted damage due to idiocy

@benroyce

The Chinese are pissed exactly because of this. Just own it so everybody can move on. No. They have to pretend nothing ever happened and piss people off more.

@chu

China South Korea Philippines (etc) have every right to rake Japan over the coals on this topic

and they will

and they should

and Japan has no one to blame but itself

@benroyce @chu the more they deny it or try to hide it the more they should be called out on it.
@benroyce @chu "Self-inflicted damage due to idiocy" is, in large part, the story of humanity.

@benroyce they really do have some cultural issues with not recognizing why they got bombed.

KanColle comes to mind. Personifying the attackers on Pearl Harbor as anime women..

@benroyce
Buckle up. Japan elected the most conservative Japanese PM in modern history. This is going to get much worse.
@benroyce It is universally evil o be an ethnostate, and ethnostates engage in a lot of similar and predictable behavior.
Seriously... I think ethnostates should be on the same level as theocracies and universally embargoed.
@AeonCypher @benroyce what if we just didnt have states

@imanormalperson @benroyce My experience with Anarchists, people who were well read on intentional communities, is that they:
- Have important things that just aren't done.
- Have important things that get done by a tiny fraction of people until they rage quit
- Enact injustices against vulnerable people in their group
- Allow abusers and manipulators to thrive amongst them

No thanks.

@benroyce @AeonCypher come on man i thought you were better than this how can you oppose political violence while turning a blind eye to the violence of the state
@imanormalperson @AeonCypher i'm not a peacenik. the problem is stupid violence. if it comes to violence we'll be ready. we have to be smart
@benroyce @AeonCypher show me a government what wouldnt have let my parents abuse me
@benroyce @AeonCypher if stupid violence is the problem than the liberal government where i live should have shot my mother in the fucking head
@imanormalperson @AeonCypher hey i'm talking generally. i'm not trivializing your situation
@benroyce @AeonCypher im talking generally too, just using a personal example. abuse is innately political. i have tried to find a place in the world with a government that wouldnt have done this. there is nowhere. as long as children are legally owned by their parents child abuse will be the default in society. im an anarchist because it is the logical conclusion to come to based on what i have seen
@benroyce @AeonCypher the abuse i endured was a direct result of my parents authoritarian belief system, and these people were liberals. this is what the middle ground looks like. if the government didnt try to return runaways, if it wasnt a crime to harbor them, people would be able to organize to get children out of these situations.
@benroyce @AeonCypher and there are so many other things where this is the case. so many people are dying already anyway. it has already come to violence. plus its generally a bad idea to make people do things they dont want to do, because then they will do those things badly. so on a strategic level authoritarian systems of organization are stupid anyway
@imanormalperson @AeonCypher i feel you. you're talking heavy life shit
@benroyce @AeonCypher is water heavy to a fish? also you post about American elections how is that less depressing? just because you dont talk about all the people dead because of those politics? even if you dont mention it everyone still knows theyre there
@imanormalperson @AeonCypher our job is to improve our world
@benroyce @AeonCypher i dont understand how this is meant to relate to the thing i just said. do you think what im saying is depressing? i literally was just talking about what could be done about this. its only an all consuming problem if you dont solve it
@benroyce @AeonCypher is this what everyone does? is this why nobody talks about it? sometimes, in my darkest moments, ive tried to stop being afraid, and it hasnt made me any happier. i look at the monster thats trying to kill me in the eyes, and i fear it because i want to live. relaxation, normalcy, in the situation im in, would kill me. a normal person in my situation would be dead. if you stay normal when it reaches you too then thats what will happen to you
@benroyce @AeonCypher the death penalty is only horrifying until you acknowledge it as murder and not euthanasia. then its just murder. and that happens all the time

@imanormalperson @AeonCypher

i can't really say anything. i think you're dealing with some heavy shit and anything i say would be patronizing. i don't want to pretend i understand

@benroyce @AeonCypher liberalism is innately an ideology of condescension. also to explain the abuse thing https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/lee-cicuta-intimate-authoritarianism-the-ideology-of-abuse <-- i dont like essays or sending them to people very much but im not gonna spend all day paraphrasing something someone else has already explained perfectly well

@benroyce @AeonCypher especially in the context of child abuse, do you think its a coincidence that the right is always going on about "parents rights"? what do you think theyre defending parents rights to do? this person also has an essay about that, but im not betting on getting anyone on social media to read two essays today. the argument im trying to make right now is that the state mandates child abuse alongside a menagerie of other horrific abuses im less experienced yelling about, and therefore we shouldnt have one. this essay pretty much does the same thing but in reverse
@AeonCypher @benroyce states also do all of those things

@benroyce Nations that refuse to recognize their crimes against Humanity, abuses of minorities, rail against being discussed for one reason only: They are benefiting from what they did or continue to do.

Any nation worthy of its people is answerable to the history they were part of. They cannot, by virtue of any victimhood caused to them, justify abuses to people who did not cause them suffering, directly.

Japan continues to devalue women of all strata and status. Nothing learned.
