India's CBSE board has made three languages mandatory from Class 6 under the National Education Policy 2020. The new R1/R2/R3 framework requires at least two Indian languages from 44 listed options — including all 22 constitutionally scheduled languages. English is now classified as a foreign language. Full board exams across three days are planned from 2031.
