@theotherbrook how could I not? I love tractors. And working ones?? Well that's just heaven.
Tangentially related: did you hear about the John Deere right-to-repair case? Yes, that sounds like a setup for a joke, but it's not.
@alisynthesis I did! A great win. Now I can feel okay about listening to this while driving my Kubota.

@alisynthesis Do you know Don Walser? He was the real deal and could yodel like nobody's business. The Butthole Surfers took him on tour as their opener. I mean, just listen to this and try not to yearn for the plains...

@theotherbrook 🤣
Cowboy songs were such a huge part of my childhood. I loved the ballads the most.
I think my favorite cowboy album is Marty Robinson, Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. Pretty Hollywood, but damn, it sounds good.
@alisynthesis One of the best moments of being a parent was when my son, who'd been obsessed with Bauhaus and Cocteau Twins for a year said, "Can I play you the album I've been listening to over and over for the last two weeks?"
I said "Sure." And then he cued up Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. We sang along to "Big Iron" together.
It was when Don Walser's album came out that I started really ruing how Western had been subsumed by Country. To me they are two different genres.
@theotherbrook that's such a way cool memory ðŸ¤
Yeah, country music is way more diverse than it gets credit for. Texas alone has quite a few styles. Lots of great stuff.
Most cowboy songs are also incredibly silly if you take a step back. But they're so fun!
@alisynthesis I think it's okay to love the Western myths as long as we acknowledge their flaws. There's so much excellent storytelling that can be framed in those tropes.
And when it comes to Texas styles, I've got a fever and the only cure is more accordion!
