A former staffer of Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading Democratic candidate for California governor, says that the congressman raped her when she was heavily intoxicated, an allegation Swalwell strongly denies.

“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman said of the incident, which she said happened in 2024 after she had stopped working in Swalwell’s office. “He didn’t stop.”
She said it was the second time #EricSwalwell had #nonconsensual sexual contact with her while she was drunk. In 2019, when she was still working for him, she said she woke up naked with him in a hotel after a night of drinking. She said she had no memory of what happened but could feel physically they’d had sexual contact

3 other women who spoke with CNN also alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct by the Democratic congressman – including #EricSwalwell sending them unsolicited explicit messages or nude photos.

1 woman who connected online with Swalwell over her interest in Democratic politics says she ended up extremely drunk in his hotel room after a night out with the congressman, with little memory of what occurred. Earlier in the night at a bar, he kissed her & touched her leg without her consent.

Another woman, who described receiving unsolicited nude messages from #EricSwalwell, was social media creator Ally Sammarco. She said she initially reached out to the congressman on Twitter to discuss politics. “I truly never thought he would respond – I had like 1,000 followers at the time,” she said. “And he actually responded.”

Swalwell denied the women’s allegations.

California governor candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell denies assault allegations

Prominent supporters of California Rep. Eric Swalwell's bid for governor are withdrawing their support Friday in a stunning political reversal. It comes after the congressman denies allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman twice, including once when she worked for him. The woman told her account to the San Francisco Chronicle. The AP hasn't been able to independently verify her account or identity. Swalwell has disputed the allegations, but now faces growing calls from prominent Democrats to drop out. The allegations surfaced weeks before mail ballots are scheduled go out in advance of a June 2 primary election.

Gov #GavinNewsom, a likely 2028 presidential candidate who has avoided engaging in the contest, said in a statement: “As we continue to learn more, these allegations from multiple sources are deeply troubling & must be taken seriously.”

Fmr House Speaker #NancyPelosi, who hasn’t endorsed in the race, said the “serious allegations” must be investigated.

“As I discussed with Congressman Swalwell, it is clear that is best done outside of a gubernatorial campaign,” she said in social media post.

…On Friday afternoon, Sen #AdamSchiff said in a social media post he’s “deeply distressed” by the allegations, calling for #Swalwell to end his gubernatorial bid.

Democratic Rep Jimmy Gomez, who helped run Swalwell’s campaign, said he’s immediately ending his role.

“The congressman should leave the race now so there can be full accountability without doubt, distraction, or delay,” Gomez posted.

AZ Sen Ruben Gallego & CA Rep Adam Gray also said they’re yanking their support. Mark Ramos, who heads the #LosAngeles County #Democratic Party, called on #Swalwell to end his campaign.

Powerful #labor #unions, including the #California #Service Employees International Union & the California #Teachers Association, said they’re suspending their support. The California Federation of Labor Unions said it’s “acting urgently” on next steps.

A spox for #House #Democratic leader #HakeemJeffries said the allegations require a “serious & thorough investigation.”

“These brave women must be heard & respected,” spox Christie Stephenson said in a statement. “It is imperative that the investigation follow the facts, apply the law & take place immediately.”

This turmoil in the race came after the San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday that a woman said #Swalwell sexually assaulted her in 2019 & 2024. The newspaper reviewed text messages about the alleged 2024 assault & spoke to people whom she had told about it. She told the newspaper she did not go to police because she was afraid she would not be believed.

@Nonilex I've always gone by the rule of three when it comes to these things. 1 person can lie. 2 people telling the same lie is weird, but possible.But to get three or more people to lie about the same stuff is not at all realistic. We can assume these allegations are true, unfortunately.

Mrs DB told me she read about Roger Stone involvement-the original dirty tricks guy who got Gary Hart on the Monkey Business with not Hart’s wife. @Nonilex this should be easy to prove given there are text msgs, pics and hotel stays. He should step aside and have his day in court. There will be other elections. If these allegations are proven he should suffer the consequences of his actions.
