Ate a quick lunch & got back to my backyard food gardening.
Sowed a row of sweet yellow corn, a row of Jimmy red corn & a new mixed poppies patch.
I'm taking a brief tea break before sowing sage, 3 assorted beans, yellow cherry tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, endives, chervil & making another mixed salad planter. 👩🌾
I found these unmarked mixed bean #seeds. Sowing them & will see what kind they are, when they sprout & mature. Pretty seeds 👩🌾

@PhoenixSerenity someday, I'll succeed at growing corn in Ontario. Every year I've tried, some critter or another has beaten me to the harvest.
@Shanmonster I'm trying to grow corn in our backyard for first time. I've grown some in other places on island before. It's trickier than other food plants I'm more experienced with growing. I want to try growing more varieties of corn for both food & for art/craft backyard supply. I can only learn to grow corn better by trying/failing/trying til I succeed 👩🌾🤞🏻❤️💚

I'm going to plant 2-4 hazelnut trees in our backyard this year. Mostly for our backyard squirrels for peaceful #coexistence & dissaude them from busting into my greenhouse to eat my baby plants. I already grow a patch of ground cherries for them in far back of yard. I'll grow a few other food plants for them & the birds & raccoons so they are less inclined to eat from my food gardens.
They(the wildlife) were here first.
I'll try to get some photos of Mr. T - our backyard super buff squirrel. Biggest squirrel I've never seen, living in our backyard. I call him Mr. T because he's so buff, it looks like he has a 6 pack 🐿 I've been tempted to craft Mr. T a set of peanut barbells.🥜

@Shanmonster I've had small successes growing 3 different melons. I'm aiming to get better with growing melons because we love to eat them! I chose some tried/tested varieties that have done well on Vancouver Island & in colder Northern BC areas 👩🌾 I will update on how my attempts at growing more melons go, this year 😊🤞🏻
More alternative cover crops/soil conditioner plants were sowed into another spot where more of our old backyard lawn was taken out.
I hoed around too much over past few days & my right arm is a bit numb now. Doing lighter tasks until my arm feels better. Gotta watch my hoeing around time, more mindfully. I get carried away sometimes & my body is quick to reprimand.
Terence@NM8A I can hoe around every day but not go super hardcore with too much hoeing around. I sometimes forget that I'm over 50 years old now & my hoeing needs to be more mindful!
Bucket of citrus rinds with molasses & fish bones at bottom of bucket. This will be #homemade free #fertilizer for my blueberry plants. One of my many buckets of eggshells.
