The #GoodFridayAgreement was signed on #ThisDayInHistory in 1998 by the UK, #Ireland, and #SinnFéin for the #IRA. Its goal of a devolved government, dismantling #ethnocracy, and ending #TheTroubles has been largely successful, even if an artificial border still divides families.
The Good Friday Agreement ended the violence in Northern Ireland but has not yet won the peace.
We still have peace walls dividing parts of Belfast, we can not educate our children together, some can't tolerate the original language of these lands and we can't have a grown up form of government.
We can't have a new future until we deal with all that, starting with a functioning government and politicians who are prepared to be brave to take a step into the unknown.
