A pile of old cars, dropped through a narrow opening, cascades into this abandoned Welsh slate mine. Daylight streams in from the same hole, illuminating twisted wreckages. Certainly. a strange site that raises questions and stirs emotions.

What do you see here? An unusually beautiful scene, accidentally created from careless dumping of cars? Or nothing more than an ugly pile of trash?

@ObsidianUrbex There is something poetic here.
@ObsidianUrbex looks surreal to me, i like it πŸ‘
@ObsidianUrbex
This picture is incredible ! Congrats πŸ‘
@ObsidianUrbex that's quite disturbing, but beautiful! And there are SO MANY QUESTIONS!
A site I'd always intended to visit, there are so many good sites in Wales @ObsidianUrbex
@ObsidianUrbex
I see waste, nothing beautiful about it. 😐
@ObsidianUrbex I can see a kind of beauty, the way the light streams in, the colour of the water, the patina of the rust etc... but mainly its just depressing. Humans can be awful.
@ObsidianUrbex I see a scene that would be beautiful but has been ruined by waste. It just reminds me how awful most human beings are.
@ObsidianUrbex You have caught the beauty of the captured moment, however, a closer look brings 😒
@ObsidianUrbex
tragic and beautiful at the same time
@ObsidianUrbex Trash. Without any doubt. Nothing poetic about it.

@ObsidianUrbex
What do I see? An excellent composition. I originally disregarded the idea of it being a dump (leaning on the accident idea), but reading your comment, it appear I was understimating the fact some might just throw car in some (natural) hole in the ground disorganized.

Good work!

@ObsidianUrbex To all who are fascinated in any way by this, I warmly recommend Robert MacFarlane's book Underland. The part when he climbs down into this dump and thinks about humans, waste, and nature is unforgettable! https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/apr/30/underland-a-deep-journey-by-robert-macfarlane-review

My first thoughts when I looked at this picture of abandoned cars in an abandoned mine shaft was the near certainty that one or more still contained fuel, oil and lubricants, all of which will pollute and poison the water table.

8'- (

This is on par with the toxic tailings generated by virtually ALL mining operations with similarly negative impacts on the environment.

@ObsidianUrbex What aliens, in a few thousands of years, will find, studying the history of this planet.
Great photo, great light and reflections on the hypogean lake.
@ObsidianUrbex i mean, you slap a beam of light onto anything and its pretty, right?

@ObsidianUrbex

I see a pile of trash, though the lighting is nice.

@ObsidianUrbex You can judge a society by its midden heap.
@ObsidianUrbex looks beautiful, and makes me think how toxic people are. Does they drained all fluids from those cars? I think they're not. So all toxins spread around in that beautiful scene. And will reach the wells of locals.
Ohhh wat erg! Al dat afval in de mooie grot.
@ObsidianUrbex An ugly pile of trash dropped into an otherwise beautiful scene (with great lighting I might add)
@ObsidianUrbex HOLY CHEAT! looks like a scenery out of a game
@ObsidianUrbex Brilliant shot with fantastic lighting; reminds me of a patient recently who was talking about painkillers/the 'side-effect' of fecal impaction and the relief of one really good shit!.. And this shot made me think 'this is some beautiful shit!!!

@ObsidianUrbex I initially thought about the pollution in that water killing the creatures that live in it. But then, it's a mine. That body of water may well not have existed before they cut that pit open.

So, the cars, the hole, even the pond... all of it is a scar on the Earth. And the beautiful light and composition almost make me forget it.

@ObsidianUrbex What an evocative image. It's like Lord of the Rings meets Mad Max!
@ObsidianUrbex Beautiful photo, it has a distinctly Studio Ghibli aesthetic IMO. I half expect a wounded nature spirit to pop out of the water.

@ObsidianUrbex

As well as the scene itself, I see a metaphor.

@ObsidianUrbex It's a beautiful image... But my first thought was "it's contaminating the water!" And my second thought "metal is easy to recycle!" -- and only then did my brain register the beauty of the photo.
@ObsidianUrbex
"... and we have just 3 days to find out!"
@ObsidianUrbex Pile of trash which is sad
@ObsidianUrbex personally I see a disgusting crime against nature, and utter disregard towards natural beauty.
