In 1974 ABBA entered the big stage and won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo, which became their first global hit.

I have never ever listened to the Swedish version of the title track, but I am doing so now and it adds another layer of awesomeness.

A medley closes a fantastic album called "ABBA" made by ABBA.

Man In The Middle was my highlight, but overall it's a pretty strong album. Seems like they were experimenting a lot (Tropical Loveland, Rock Me) so this album had some surprises left for me.

With their 4th studio album, Arrival, ABBA became global stars. Which makes sense since the album is very polished pop music. The experiments are gone.
And why I am still enjoying this uplifting disco music, I miss the "odd" ones.

There's a lot of foreshadowing in their songs, like if they knew they'd all split up rather sooner than later.

Do you know German Schlager?
It sucks ass, plain and simple.

Now ABBA always had some Schalgery songs, but on Arrival it's just too much.

The closing track, for example, is some serious Schlager shit you can only listen to when you're intoxinated. I am not, so that's a no no for me.

With "I'm A Marionette" ABBA is closing "The Album" with a song I only knew because of Ghost, who did a cover once.

But ABBA's version is better.

And the whole album is great too. Of course it's cheesy at parts, but the cringeworthy "Schlager" elements from "Arrival" are mostly gone. Every now and then there's a really nice guitar and some great bass lines.
