The MC in the Victorian fantasy novel (WIP) pulls a container of smelling salts out of her purse, which she is only just exploring. She's encountering it for the first time and has no idea what it actually is. It's unbelievable for her, since she's already lost in her environment, and this is just one more mysterious item.
