I am very interested in the importance of #psychological #health for #spiritual #practice. I want to learn more about Jack Engler, a Buddhist psychotherapist who said, “You have to be somebody before you can be nobody.” We need a healthy #ego to practice well and safely, so I was concerned to hear a senior ajahn teaching recently that we need to “dissolve the ego”. 1/2

I don’t know if such a teaching is technically wrong view, but my understanding is we need to see the ego as just another conditioned phenomena we shouldn’t cling to. I don’t think we can or should try to eradicate the ego, but need to cultivate a skilful relationship to it. And aversion to ego is just another form of #clinging, right?

What do you think?

Maslow was onto this as well I think 🤔
