I am@partial to a bit of pedantry as some have noticed in the past, but this is world class by Mr Brisbane. From Pedantry Corner, Private Eye

@Wen Beware the snides of March.
@Wen This is somehow both what being female on the Internet feels like a lot of the time and this particular female before she smacks her fingers and tells herself to go touch grass. Inside you there are two wolves, etc.
@Wen
So, Trump's elaborate stage setting for his "going down in history" on the steps of his ormolu ballroom will be spoiled by the wrong columns.
@Wen top marks

@capnthommo I knew about the columns. I knew where Caesar was assasinated. I think I might have even seen a decent image. I saw the cartoon. I didn’t put them all together.

The difference between a champion and an enthusiastic practitioner 🤭

@Wen Not only is that Pedantry, but it's pedantry by the pedant's, pedant's pedant!💥 🤣 🤣 🤣
@sjcooke66 @Wen indeed, professional pedantry.
@Wen Reminds me of the time I came across a note on a blooper in Das Boot, noting that the model of ENIGMA machine used in the movie only started to be used months after the movie took place.

@Anke @Wen I get a little like this when it comes to fruit/botanical messups in film/TV.

I think there's fodder here for a whole TV/web show of various nerds making commentary for shows, ha.

@Wen Andrew Brisbane, ladies and gentlemen, voted “Most Likely to Die Alone in a Tea-Spattered Mackintosh While Trainspotting” by his graduating class.
@gryphonwandering But reveeed in his passing as a master of the art
@Wen “would someone please pass the pedanticide? “
@Wen When I'm poked I love to be that much pedantic myself.

@Wen

pedantry is one of those things where a small bit of it is annoying, but an exhaustive explication of it is godlike and awesome

@benroyce @Wen reminds me of cartoon. (Which I can't find, so I'll describe it, alt text style)

It's a cartoon of a door to a room, and on the door a sign that reads 'Pedants society, meets here every Tuesday.'
Attached to that sign is another sign that someone else has added, that reads 'not here exactly, but behind this door.'
Then attached to that sign is yet another sign that reads 'not directly behind the door but within the room behind this door!'

@robchapman @Wen

all that, and they didn't even mention at what hour it would be 😂

@benroyce @Wen exactly, there's always a sign to add to the door
@robchapman @benroyce @Wen
Reminds me of a fascinating door in the RDS which bore the sign "This door is neither an entrance nor an exit", under which some wag had written "technically all functional doors are both"
@robchapman @benroyce @Wen I'm reminded that Private Eye's Pedantry Corner itself has a relatively recent title. Before that, it was called Pedant's Corner, Pedants' Corner or Pedants Corner and, as a result, became a neatly self-sustaining feature, if a somewhat dull one.
@Wen I'm actually more partial to Doric columns. I think they are cleaner, and less likely to become out of style.
@agreeable_landfall Yup, Corinthians were louche
@Wen Mr Brisbane should have cut the artist dude some slack. Corinthian capitals are more complicated to draw than Ionic ones and the artist probably wasn't getting paid enough as it was. He should be happy he didn't get stick figures and Doric capitals.
@Wen That's not actually a 'corner'.

@Not_Dieter_Rot @Wen

Long time readers of Private Eye may remember the months of discussion about whether it should be called "Pedant's Corner", or "Pedants' Corner".

@Walrus @Not_Dieter_Rot I always felt there were enough of us for it to be Pedants’ 😜

@Wen love it

I'm also a big fan of Corinthian columns

@Wen isn't it ionic, don't you think? Anyways, the iony is lost on me.
@freshstart Not sure it is ironic. More a laugh at the apparent need for a cartoonist to have knowledge of architecture of the time and buildings (they used both styles) to make a joke. I think@he was poking fun.

@Wen And isn’t it Ionic?
Don’t you think?
A little too Corinthian...
And yeah, I really do think...
It’s like ten thousand columns when all you need is a roof
It’s a fluted shaft, that’s the ultimate proof
It’s the good advice that Caesar didn't take
Who would’ve thought? It figures!

Edit: with apologies to Alannis Morisette and anyone here I may have confused

@freshstart @Wen
😂
Thanks, that's brilliant!
@Wen the XFiles had am entire episode poking fun at all the entomologist pedants pointing out their many, many, many, ... many entomological faux pas. 😂
@Wen Sounds this guy is really "puckered".
