Once again, Canadian media uncritically reposts a propaganda hit-piece by right-wing, dark money funded ‘think tank’ to drive public outrage by misrepresenting the facts.

BC’s marketing campaign has successfully recruited hundreds of US healthcare workers at a time when our healthcare system is in crisis. Maybe it’s not just about the price of coffee? 🤔

@crispius How many were due to this program, and how many from Tod Maffin's efforts?
@ZenHeathen
That’s a good question. Maybe @tod has some data?

@crispius

The ability of the ultra-rich to purchase media and use it for propaganda purposes is one of the greatest threats we face and needs to be addressed. I'd like to see:

1) Limits on how many media outlets an individual can have an ownership stake in (and the limit should be 1); this prevents the situation we are in now where a few individuals control most of the media outlets.

2) Make journalists a regulated profession (similar to Engineers, Doctors, or Teachers) with clear standards and codes of conduct. Also restrict the use of the terms 'journalism' and 'news' to licenced journalists; this ensures that there is some sort of professional standard in journalism (which makes producing propaganda pieces harder) and prevents dedicated propaganda outlets from masquerading as legitimate news sites (even if they try and employ licenced journalists)
