This is my second self portrait pencil sketch, which I whipped up over the course of about 4.5 hours.

#SelfPortrait

I’m doing more sketches than painting atm, because I’m also working from home a few hours each day for a few weeks, & painting takes more time.
@Susan60 Wow. A lot bloody harder than it looks probably.

@sister_ratched

For me, yes. So many alterations & corrections. A very slight adjustment to an angle, proportion etc can make so much difference to the expression, the harshness, softness etc.

I can see why people practise by drawing/painting themself. You’d lose a lot less friends… 😂

@Susan60 Wow! Great job!

@caity

😁. But peeved about the AI generated alt txt. Older woman… humph! 😂

@Susan60 humph! But great sketch!
I went to portrait drawing from life session this arvo, my drawing looked like a courtroom sketch artist had done it!
But ... I'm getting better at proportions, so I'm happy!
@caity @Susan60 courtroom sketching is a legitimate art form, no shame 😆😁
@treleanor @Susan60 The poor bloke in my sketch looked like a THUG though, and the model was a nice bloke! 😂
@caity @Susan60 😁😁

@treleanor @caity

😁

I looked like a thug in my first sketch! I did the second from a photo, using a grid, & it took hours. Proportions & angles are crucial. So many erasures & adjustments…

@Susan60 @treleanor The portraiture course I've just started is very much based on accurate measurements. So I'm hoping that helps!

@Susan60 three thingies, fwiw

  • it's rooly good -- onya! 🥇
  • was bugging me that you look familiar [first saw this thread last night], & just now it clicked why... your original, otherwise one of the prior, profile pics was you, micro, many many times over, on a disco ball or something, & i recall i zoomed it on it one day. busted! heehee
  • "So many alterations & corrections" -- an alternative approach that would dramatically reduce sketching & revision time, would be to dash orf a quick initial sketch, then take it to a plastic surgeon as their template to apply. i see no difficulties with this #cunningplan
  • @MsDropbear42

    😁

    Yes, there was a kaleidoscope type photo of me, looking into a mirror thingy at Te Papa museum Wellington NZ.
