With the lighter nights coming in, crepuscular species like the Pine Marten can be glimpsed and sometimes passable photos can be obtained. This shot was at 8pm one evening in an old friends (huge) garden where he had Red Squirrels as well as the Martens visiting. #Nature #Wildlife #WildlifePhotography #PineMarten #Mustelid #Scotland
@Dolphinchaz Superb, and looking straight at you!
@outdoorsbeth She heard the shutter on the camera in previous frame to this one Beth, thankfully this time the focus was good as she looked right at me. Two hours wait for one sharp frame. I didn't complain πŸ˜‚ She wasn't actually that bothered with the shutter clunk, she wandered right under my car then out the other side and casually up into the forest.
@Dolphinchaz oooft that’s a beaut!
@MartinTaudio Thanks Martin - very kind sir - I only managed to get two frames of that animal, one was just out of focus on the face but this frame was fine. The camera I was using at the time had a loud shutter and I was being ultra cautious.
@Dolphinchaz Great photo and a handsome Pine Martin
@david_preston Thanks David πŸ€—
@Dolphinchaz I once was on a fallen tree over a river beside a bridge and my dog inadvertently chased a pine martin up the tree and my brother was on the bridge with a camera, I thought I was in some sort of fairy kingdom seeing the Pine Martin up that close, alas the camera jammed and photo never happened but it is still one of my favourite things, happened in Tollymore Forest Co. Down, NI, where there are lots of red squirrels too.
@david_preston One of those fleeting moments etched into your memory forever - just lovely. What a shame the camera jammed 🀬
@Dolphinchaz I know, would have been quite a photo with dog, pine martin and I all in one shot but there it is. Wasn't a fancy camera and maybe it should have been a more reliable one but there it is. Still was a moment to cherish to look into the eyes of the Pine Martin that close, it escaped by running under the tree trunk avoiding the dog and I, quite skillful indeed.
@david_preston Amazingly agile, they move like a liquid sometimes.
@Dolphinchaz i can only see them at night in my garden, never during the day so pictures are tricky.
@BubblegumYeti Yes, it's a species whose habits seem highly varied, I've known some individuals that were totally nocturnal, others who are crepuscular and others that are happy out and about in broad daylight.
@Dolphinchaz Love this little fella! πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Ž
@thetog75 Yeah - 8,000 ISO, still, cleaned up okay πŸ˜‚ πŸ‘
@Dolphinchaz Have a look at DXO Pure Raw 6. πŸ‘Œ Some of my Red Squirrel shots were 12,800+, and it does a superb job, before exporting into Lightroom. It has a free trial. πŸ‘
@thetog75 I used Adobe RAW, it's part of the subscription in Photoshop and for all the high ISO stuff I do these days it's fine. πŸ‘

@Dolphinchaz

Outstanding photo of a pine marten! Perfect pose and lighting, lovely green natural setting, and a beautiful asymmetric composition. Thanks!

@oldclumsy_nowmad Thank you Roy - much appreciated sir πŸ€—
