Things Fall Apart (1958)

Just finished a novel by Chinua Achebe, set in Nigeria, at the time of the arrival of the white men. The story follows one mans struggles dealing with both his masculinity and the tearing down of local culture as the Christians enforce their power. Very interesting and well written book in many ways, though obviously the topic is a sad one.

Unsure if the book cover is original or patched up, given this one is a 1963 published reprint from the Helsinki library archive.

Ps. I've been forgetting to do my "what I've read" posts :P Some other more long form books I've read recently, in addition to various comics:

  • What If? Randall Munroe's (xkcd fame) excellent book, serious answers to absurd hypothetical questions.
  • Thing Explainer. Another interesting one from Munroe, this one explaining lots of complex things with only the "ten hundred" most common words in the English language.
  • Suuri kaalihuijaus. Finnish book about the widespread ignorance in society, and how it affects political decisions. Well worth a read!
  • Polysecure. "Attachment, trauma and consensual non-monogamy", pretty much says it all. Great book, enjoyed it, especially the first two topics.
  • Kymmenen puheenvuoroa yhteiskunnasta: 1949-1963. Ten lectures by Theodor W. Adorno translated into Finnish and published as a collection. All topics related to society, politics and rebuilding after the war.
