US Admiral & mathematics PhD #GraceHopper was the first #ComputerScientist to devise a machine-independent/high-level #ProgrammingLanguage (FLOW-MATIC, then COBOL). She met with a team on #ThisDayInHistory in 1959 to discuss creation of #COBOL, a #mainframe language still in use.

@LiamOMaraIV She's told some great stories in interviews, which I found online somewhere a few years ago.

I'm not a big fan of COBOL, but I'm a huge fan of her attitude to getting things done. And I still carry a nanosecond in the cables pocket of my bag, in her honour.
