@bnuyaminim.bsky.social Why ג ← Akk. k (← Sum /kʰ/) though? (It’s funny that you get היכל ← e₂.gal /hajkal/ (https://cal.huc.edu/oneentry.php?lemma=hykl%20N&cits=all) but אגור ← e₂.kur /hajkʰur/ (though the ה ← Sum /h/ shows they weren’t borrowed together))

Seems to be A Thing with loans from Neo-Assyrian: סרגון, שגל, תגלת־פלאסר... While *haykal- was already borrowed into PWS (or widely Wandered afterwards), as the phonology would suggest.
