Shout out to Gen X, and the existential dread of imminent nuclear apocalypse!
@gknauss I'm still writing 1980's on my existential dread.

@gknauss

It was never all it's cracked up to have been.

@gknauss ๐Ÿคž๐ŸŒฎ
@gknauss vivid flashbacks to The Day After, Red Dawn, and Testament
@cczona @gknauss Threads! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
@earsmeardius is that this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_Game The title reminds me of "WarGames" with Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy, another cold war classic.
The War Game - Wikipedia

@cczona Yes, that's the one. It was on YT.
We watched it in school. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
@earsmeardius @cczona They had you watch it in school?!
@gknauss @Meyerweb Not the retro I was looking for.
@gknauss @Meyerweb One of the many things I don't miss about the 80s.

@gknauss

Ayep. The decades-old nightmare below the surface begins to itch more than it has in a long time.

@gknauss Thank you! This is what I've been saying.

@gknauss And they say us Boomers have nothing in common with Gen Z. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

#WeWillAllBurnTogetherWhenWeBurn

@gknauss

Oh thank you! At last! ๐Ÿฅณ

Yeah. We're sort of experts. But that eerie feeling never really went away, so the answer is no, you don't ever really โ€œget used to itโ€œ. You're welcome!

@gknauss A constant hum over the last sixty or so years.

@gknauss except this time, the existential dread's main villain of imminent nuclear apocalypse is our own leader!

Also, I was told Project 2025 is from the Reagan era, but did not realize they wanted conflict with Iran back too!

@tweetsjen @gknauss

Ah, Reagan made a DEAL with Iran before his presidency!

@gknauss for us this was just a Tuesday ๐Ÿ˜Ž
@gknauss Old fear reacquired.
@gknauss I can assure you that air raid sirens going off at 3 am (squirrels apparently) can traumatize any young child.
@gknauss
Dont forget #nuclear #raid #drills in school, where we pretend that hiding under our melamine desk would protect us.
@gknauss @Meyerweb
Do you remember early September 83'
There was a period of three days we thought there would be nuclear war. I spent those three days holes up in paradise reading sci-fi short stories.
I have a history of dealing with bad shit by doing fun things. We held parties in college when the Persian Gulf war began. Now I am watching cat videos.
