Every democracy on earth should be secular.

The U.S. under Trump clearly is not, and as a consequence, we now have a war between two religious adversaries who both believe they are chosen by God.

This is not helpful.

@randahl

Although #Denmark has an established church - or so I have been told!

@djr2024 that is correct. But I have not in my lifetime seen a member of government involved in a prayer.

For as long as I can remember, the Christian Democrats have been trying to get elected to the Parliament of Denmark, and the fail every time. I presume this is because Danes in general want a secular society.

@randahl Two of the four nations that make up the #uk also have an established church. The two established churches have a common theology - #reformed rather than #lutheran - but entirely different organisational arrangements. And of them #england at least seems much more profoundly secular than say #northernireland which has not had an established church since the late nineteenth century.
