J-Day 🐦

Finally finished and sent off the transcription and interview for the magazine! And I got a picture of a Jay! Always remember to celebrate the small things! Life is too damn short and also too damn long. ✨

I'm a terrible wildlife photographer, but I did my best! πŸ˜‚βœ¨
@[email protected] Any relation? πŸ˜‚βœ¨
@NotAHopeInHades That’s my cousin Otis, still staring into space and making up poems in his head, I see! He was always the dreamer in the family.πŸ˜‚
Ah right! Didn't catch his name! πŸ˜‚ He was just reminding me not to put raisins in the potato salad at the family reunion. πŸ˜‚βœ¨ I'll see you there - raisin free!
Well done!! They're rather shy, aren't they?
Thank you! What are you going to celebrate today? β™₯️ Yes! This pretty big crop and I also used a 250mm zoom. They really wanted to be left alone! πŸ˜‚βœ¨
250mm, wow, that's impressive! Can you manage the camera with such a large lens? I imagine it's much heavier and more cumbersome than a "standard" setup? I still haven't looked into other lenses. πŸ™ˆ
Today's win for me is that I finally managed to score an appointment at a new rheumatology practice after weeks of trying to get through πŸ˜‚πŸ’ͺ
Yes! Actually the 250 is really light! I know you have a Canon like me - so if you're interested it's a 55-250mm USM IS EF-S lens with an EF to RF adapter. It's also a macro lens at 0.85m. I got mine second hand. (If you do want to get one, make sure it's IS USM - best version in my opinion!) It's really quiet and really light. I promise I have no stocks in this lens. πŸ˜‚
YAAAY! I'm so happy for you!! πŸ«‚ It can be so difficult to get specialist appointments so this is really good news!! β™₯️✨
Thanks so much on both accounts! That sounds really really good. πŸ₯Ή I've made a note of the model and also found an interesting RF alternative. Will look into it a bit more and hem and haw over it until my birthday πŸ˜‚
If I remember correctly you have a R10, right? So, it's a APSC camera. If you find a RF lens, multiply the numbers by 1.6 . Because it's meant for full frame (but can be used on RF-S for sure!) ✨
Hm, yes, I think you mention that a while ago ... πŸ‘€
I'm wording this terribly and you don't need all this info πŸ˜‚. Don't listen to me. Here's a chart that might help you make a decision on lenses. The prices are in dollars but the names of the lenses are there!
That's gold, thank you!! 😍
I found more updated versions that cover RF-S and EF-S (which you can use with an adapter and lenses are older but might be cheaper!) they may not be completely up to date - but hopefully they are helpful!
Awesome, thanks! πŸ«‚ I hope you didn't spend all night doing research on my behalf! πŸ™ˆ
No no, don't worry about that! β™₯️✨
I better start saving up πŸ₯²
You do not need all of the lenses! πŸ˜‚ You just need to figure out what's important to you! ✨ Don't forget getting them second hand too - they'll cost less!

But I wanna do bugs AND birds! πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜…
Extension tubes! The poor man's macro! And a long lens! ✨
I looked into a few second-hand options, but I didn't find many and they weren't actually that much cheaper. πŸ˜• (This was only a first half-arsed attempt though)
Try kamerastore or ebay! I got both my EF-S lenses off ebay! ✨
@NotAHopeInHades Beautiful photo!
Thanks so much! ☺️✨

Great photo! Jays are hard to photograph, at least the ones here are super shy :)
Thank you! β™₯️ If it weren't for Peter I wouldn't have even spotted it! It was really high up in a tree avoiding everyone! This is a crop in and it was already at max 250mm. ✨
It's hard to take bird photos without having to crop in my experience, no matter how long lens you get :)
Oh! Really? I wasn't aware of this! I thought you were all carrying around like 800mm or something πŸ˜‚βœ¨
I have a 600mm lens but that is far from enough on a full-frame camera for most bird photos :D
That's a big boy indeed! πŸ«ͺ I have my 55-250 on a APSC,(Canon R50), so you're definitely in the big leagues! And your photos show that!! ✨
Jay in english sounds so much cooler than β€œEichelhΓ€her” in german, Vlaamse gaai in dutch.
They sound pretty cool to me! 😍✨
