geez. Senators want to lock up the law (again).

@carlmalamud spent years making sure the law (and standards included in the law) were publicly accessible for free. Even getting the Supreme Court to declare it so.

yeah, but...

Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), and

Congress Wants To Put The Law Behind A Paywall. Again.

@brewsterkahle @carlmalamud one has to wonder if they understand what their job is.
@brewsterkahle @carlmalamud The main branch of our local public library has a law library on the second floor for any patron to use for research or personal use. I wonder how this will affect the public libraries that already have law libraries for their communities? Librarians have fought book bans and now this?
@brewsterkahle @carlmalamud Now we know which Senators to primary, go to it folks.

@brewsterkahle @carlmalamud it should be illegal to #Paywall access to #law texts.

  • Cuz it's one thing to say "not knowing doesn't mean one isn't subject to laws" but actively making it inaccessible is at best flat-out #ClassWarfare if not blatant #fascism!
    • Because " #RuleOfLaw " means one has access to the law text!

@brewsterkahle

As long as there is a Trump Administration, there will be people who will try to get enforceable commercial rights for things that were free up ill now.

This stop to free access to laws and government regulations is an example.

Of course citizens should have free access to the laws and standards that they are being held accountable for.
(otherwise they can defend themselves with: I couldn't afford reading the regulations.)
