Welcome to war crime day.

Trump has told the press yesterday that Iran will be returned to the stone age at 8 PM US Eastern Time — that is two hours after midnight in Berlin.

So far the European reaction is complete silence, and I believe this is a case of “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake”.

There are only two outcomes:

1. If Trump chickens out, he is weakened at home.

2. If he commits the war crime, he is severely weakened internationally.

Either way, Trump loses.

@randahl He has no life (to spare/share) to live

And a question - Is anyone applauding him?

@randahl

So he has 2 bad exits, but if he stalls or do some more circus tricks The Epstein Files, Inflation, Unemployment and US Debt is waiting for him.

The problem is with GOP. They are cooked.

@randahl ...and there a few people as qualified to shoot themselves in the foot as Trump..

His hatred and stupidity will be it's own reward.

@randahl He'll be weaken internationally either way. Empty threats or war crimes, one makes him look stupid, the other evil and stupid.
Iran war LIVE: Trump warns 'a whole civilisation will die tonight' in chilling Truth Social post

Donald Trump has posted an unhinged Truth Social rant hours after apparently breaking the deadline he set for Iran by striking Kharg Island.

Metro
Live updates: U.S. strikes Kharg Island, official says; Trump warns Iran 'a whole civilization will die tonight' if a deal isn't agreed

Coverage of the Iran war, the global energy crisis, Trump's Hormuz deadline and ceasefire talks.

NBC News
@randahl Aw. I think at deadline he goes "I've issued an extension", but to be honest it's word salad whatever he says.
@randahl I don't understand. What exactly is he saying? That hour he mentioned has already passed, and everything remains the same. He's bombing, Iran is defending.
@randahl do you really believe, that europe is interested in making that fascist maniac angry?? they are all (sorry for the words) pissing theior pants OR copying trumpism cause it works in same way...
@danielpree @randahl europe already made him angry on multiple occasions. And?
@randahl if the Europeans do not react they will rightfully be seen as complicit

@randahl It's very much the classic dictator's dilemma, brought on by the need to cling to power at all cost. Has a tendency to drive dictatorships to do grossly unconscionable shit, often against their own people. Providing some option for luxurious exile has often been seen seen as a least bad third option internationally.

I really miss the option of ancient Greek style Ostracism, where people could vote to exile someone too dangerous to the state, who might otherwise rule as a tyrant.

@randahl I wonder if a lot of Democracies would function better if there was some ability to expel someone from office based only on a popular vote. That has it's perils too, of an executive who only acts when it is popular to do so, but I think that's a lesser evil than what we've seen time and time again. Better the weak executives of places like Italy and Japan than a fucking Führer.

@Infoseepage @randahl

I rather like the U.S. schedule of presidential election every four years. After your eight years, you're done. We don't have a habit of electing VPs for an encore.

Voting a unpopular president out after a year would lead to chaos. Look at the U.K.

@Stinson_108 @randahl The US has a president who is very clearly making moves to maintain his hold on power for longer than the constitutional two terms. I question any executive system which allows too much power to get invested in one person for too long. I'd far rather have a weak executive. The US Republic seems to be in a failure mode and I'm not sure if a reboot within the constitutional bounds of the system is possible or even desirable at this point.
@randahl praying for a taco
@randahl Either way, with the administration's constant invocation of religion, he's left with a weakened Jebus.

@randahl

It's not so binary. Today #Iran will announce the Strait open to all with a $1M toll. #Trump won't mind that. He tried a million dollar on Chinese-built ships calling U.S. ports. He'll call it a win.

The long term effect will be a Houthi toll in the Red Sea, a Russian toll in the Arctic, and a toll at Malacca. Trump will have succeeded in ruining all global trade. It will be the end of freedom of navigation, something the U.S. has supported for 80 years, and the British before that

@randahl The problem with your thinking is that Trump can't be weakened at home. His base is made up of people religiously devoted to him who live entirely in an echo chamber. The most likely scenario is that he either chickens out and declares victory or does a much more limited strike and declares victory.

Either way his supporters will unanimously praise him for his victory.

@randahl "severely weakened internationally" - how so? He never faced any meaningful backlash to his previous war crimes and attacks on other countries, he won't now. There is no consumer boycott of US companies, he's not charged for his crimes against humanity, there is no travel warning for the US, US-Americans can still enter Europe, there are no Sanctions against the US, no US assets seized, there are still US bases in Europe ... Nothing will happen. Nothing ever does.

@randahl

#2 places undue faith in the international community, which with a few exceptions (South Africa for one) sat back while US-accelerated genocide happened and shrugged at public outcry.

@dougroudouvari

@randahl Trump is a loser and always has been. The Republican leadership knows this, and always has known it. They are so desperate for power they will burn this country down to have it.
@randahl
Yes, but also if he commits the war crime potentially a LOT of people die and we said nothing. At that point, who cares if Trump lost - didn't we all?

@randahl

Is this 1984-speak where losing is winning?

@randahl Our only real off ramp is for the pedo president to resign and retire to a supermax prison for the criminally insane.
@randahl This seems to be another case where the TACO option is about the best one on the table. Retaliatory strikes against the Arab states can get much worse, becoming a humanitarian and ecological disaster.
@randahl Your comments do have substance. However, the global leadership, as usual says nothing... probably due to being in the same boat. As long as it does not sink, they will keep their life-jackets on. That's EU and NATO for you.
@randahl and the people whom he kills and whose homes and environment he destroys, they lose more.
@randahl 3. Trump sets the world on fire. The world loses.
@ujay68 @randahl he just might be crazy enough to unleash nukes, probably plural.
@randahl
it's the entire #US that loses
all the enablers
every single one
#NoKingsDay were fun and nice at the beginning, but now much more commitment is called for

when even those want the stable genius removed, it's over

@randahl Can we give him a bottle of Whisky and a loaded revolver?

@randahl I am mystified by Number 1.

+ His core supporters are cultists and will eat whatever excuse he comes up with.
+ He promised no wars, particularly in MENA. He didn't hold to that.
+ His tariffs have contributed to a rise in the cost of living (lol, "the cost of eggs").
+ He has broken multiple laws already and acted like a dictator.
+ His massacre of MN, among others, caused him to fire Noem.
+ His BS around Epstein caused him to fire Bondi.

I don't think his reputation is an issue.

@randahl
Trump won't do the bombing himself.
If the military is following this order "the USA" will be gone as a superpower.
As insane as the whole set up seems. It would be no surprise to see a nuclear bomb dropped on Tehran. Yay, strong man superpower..🤡 😱

Staying silent in the face of a "Molotow Coktail" to the middle east and the following (domino) collapse of the world economy means being actively complicit.

Reasonable active resistance for peace would've been way to difficult i guess.😒

@randahl
Option 3 is some kind of strike that is neither a war crime nor definite but Trump calls it big and beautiful anyway.

I still wouldn’t rule out a ground invasion.

@randahl

Logically, there's a third option but I don't think it's very likely:

He gives the "genocide" order, but the military refuses.

By saying that it's unlikely, I'm implying that it is a criminal gang.

@blogdiva

@randahl "Either way, Trump loses."
Either way, nothing will happen.

He is already deeply into war crimes and nothing happen. And Eppstein weakens his Position with the MAGA Cult and nothing happend.

@randahl
I would prefer the third, albeit far less likely, outcome:

3. Trump is removed from office before trying to issue such orders.

@randahl He brains are mushroom fodder and no one in the gop seems to care. Very very weird! It’s absolutely clear the 25th should be invoked. Do it already before he is sending nukes. Just batshit crazy dementia.

@randahl

Either way, the people of Iran lose.

We can help by centring peoples and not Trump and his ego.

@randahl

I sincerely hope that #Trump, #Vance (who is just interfering with an election in a #EU Country) and his fellow minded people will be immediately declared personae non gratae throughout the #EU.
Such actors belong before an international criminal court. Every state that suffers from their destructive machinations and wars should demand compensation for the damages they cause- just as the world did after the two wars unleashed by Germany.

@WeAreEurope

These fascists must be added to the terror list, as every other GOP member and their many donors.

Same with Netanyahu and his terror regime and parties.
