The @EUCommission’s #DigitalServicesAct enforcement cost about €15 million less than anticipated in 2025.

"The surplus comes as the cost of human resources was some €8 million lower than estimated, with operational and administrative expenditure some €7.5 million lower," wrote Politico.

In other words: the Commission has difficulties hiring the number of staff it needs to hold #BigTech accountable.

This might of course have to do with the fact that those enforcers are not hired as "EU officials" (an attractive, well-paid employment for life), but as "contract agents" (temporary, less pay, no upwards mobility, no perks etc). This is due to the EU institutions' rigid hiring framework managed by #EPSO.

Given the competitive nature of the employment market for tech experts, I am not surprised it's hard to find the right people quickly.
