The only royalty I tolerate are ones that are food/beneficial plants. I'm judgemental like that (with royalty) πŸ˜‰

I had only 6 #watermelon #seeds left. Sowed them all into 2 pots. I'll be happy if any of them sprout & provide me with some small watermelons this Summer. I've successfully grown some melons here before but am still not too great at it. I keep trying to improve my melon growing here. I do better with cantaloupe.

@PhoenixSerenity slightly jealous.. pretty sure I’m too far north for water melons, even with a greenhouse. Maybe I will try some day..
@hallvors I start them, like almost all my food plant seeds, indoors or in my DIY greenhouses.

I started this huge pot of #sorrel from a small handful of free seeds, 4 years ago. I've been harvesting/eating from it, year round ever since! I keep roots mulched in Winter. It keeps providing fresh healthy food, every single season πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ’šπŸ‘

I was harvesting sorrel, broccoli, many lettuces, mustards, lots of assorted choi/choy, turnips & potatoes - all through Winter months πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ˜
I was harvesting peas & beans last year, until 1st week of November too.
@PhoenixSerenity I do similar with nettles :)
@castanea_jo I usually just transplant clumps of nettles as they tend to do better that way instead of from seed.

@PhoenixSerenity i grew mine from seed and now I probably would be hard pressed to remove them :D

they do well from seed here

@castanea_jo Nettles do well, self seeding. Other native plants like trillium, lady slippers, shooting stars - almost always fail if trying to grow from seeds. For those - taking clumps & creating same soil conditions is key to successful cultivation ✌️
@PhoenixSerenity that's mostly been my experience too, though i've had good luck with ramps from seed.
@castanea_jo Do you grow a variety of nettles? I only harvest stinging nettles.
@PhoenixSerenity just stinging, but I'd like to get some wood nettles
