Diving into Mastodon a bit like the chaffinch diving off this branch. Hi everyone, I'm John a hobbyist wildlife photographer based in Scotland. I currently upload all of my images to Flickr but I'm wanting somewhere else to share some of them too. Still not quite sure how Mastodon works but hope to view yours and share more of my wildlife and nature photographs.

@johnmwildlife Welcome John. There's a nice community of photographers here. I'm on the USA side of the Atlantic, but it seems to me there are more photographers here from your side. To get visibility adding hashtags is important. I generally add #birds #birdphotography and #naturephotography . Addding ALT text to your images is strongly encouraged. I'm adding in a photo of a double-crested cormorant drying its wings -- while swimming -- just so followers of those tags don't feel cheated!
@Cliftographer Thank you for the lovely welcome and advice. Glad to hear there's a good community here - I look forward to participating. Great photo of a cormorant too!! Love the detail on the wing; you've been able to get close enough to really show it off. I was photographing one the other day at the beach but on reflection think I was too far away for it to be a great photo. I still need to process it so maybe I'll be surprised.

@johnmwildlife Welcome John! I look forward to seeing your photos and hearing more about the wildlife in Scotland. My first visit there was last September and I've been planning a return since then.

πŸ“· Welcome

You will find a vibrant photography community on Mastodon (and the FediVerse)

Welcome! Thanks for bringing your work here! Looking forward to seeing what you have to share with us!

@johnmwildlife Hi John. Hope you enjoy it here!

I'm on Mastodon.scot where people like @vivdunstan regularly post lovely bird photographs. Worth having a scroll through the posts on this instance if you're interested in local connections. If you haven't already discovered it, I found https://fedi.tips very helpful when I was new to Mastodon, too.
