Very nice!
Over the weekend, I picked up a new1856 Large Cent. I now have both varieties of 1856 pennies (Upright and Slanting 5).
@MattTheQuick @CoinOfNote Welcome to the club!
I only started collecting within the last year, and so far I've got about 9 of them, including this new one.
Have you looked at collecting any half cents yet?
@MattTheQuick @CoinOfNote I think coin shows are a good way to find coins. You'll get local and out-of-town dealers, as well as hobbyists selling their collections.
I live in Indianapolis, and we're fortunate to have a monthly show here. There's always a good variety of coins, and some really nice folks (and some grumpy old men).
This past weekend, I drove with my buddy to Richmond (1 hour away) for their show. I bought that Large Cent, as well as an 1869 Shield Nickel (my first one).
@MattTheQuick @leopardboy Do let us know if you get to a show and pick anything up (And Matt do feel encouraged to share your new large cent! I must admit, most of my old copper is European large cents, but either way, it is fantastic to hold something people bought things with hundreds of years ago and ponder where it has been, what tales it could tell...
Here is my largest large cent - a 1797 UK "Cartwheel" penny: 36mm diameter and 3mm thick, next to a 1967 UK penny which, at 30.8mm diameter, is still larger than a US large cent :)
(I also wrote a post with a little bit of info on it here: https://coinofnote.com/1797-uk-penny/ )
@MattTheQuick @CoinOfNote There are a few places with calendars, but here's one.
Looks like there's a big, multi-day one happening this weekend!
