The one on the right might be pickled plums - those are the best things in the world. One day we'll try making them ourselves if we're brave enough to risk explosions :)

@Xover0 oh interesting, i never thought to try plums, i might have to one day too! homemade pickles really are so delicious and so much fun

(for explosions, would a fermenting jar be useful? with a built in valve to release the pressure. or is the explosiveness caused by some other factor)

We're not sure. We've heard tomatoes like to explode too. Maybe it has to do with the thickness of the cell walls?

@Xover0 interesting. tomatoes sound good too! i looked back through my Ukrainian recipe books and there is indeed a recipe for salted damsons in there, so i may be trying this over summer next time the damsons are in. i will have to watch out for explosions 😄
