Encountered a person on Mastodon who said Mastodon should be inclusive of "AI" users. So I blocked him
@mcc not only that, he suggested that this is exactly like the time we scared off black twitter, because ai boosters are basically black twitter and we're racists for not seeing it.
@dysfun @mcc Not the first time I see this brought up, sometimes even the deluxe mental gymnastics version: you're treating a lifeless machine in a way that could be considered offensive if it was a living person, but people can use machines, too, ergo you're transitively racist against real people! Checkmate/QED/etc.
@mcc the ever-effective tactic of "click a button to make a weird guy disappear"
@mcc that's such a stupid statement on so many levels
@mcc Well deserved block if I've ever heard of one.
@mcc @Darkasvim do name and not just shame, so we can avoid them
@mirabilos @mcc @Darkasvim @bunnyhero Hint, it is related in this thread with this epic comment gone viral. https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/116352812942715569
@regendans @mirabilos @mcc @Darkasvim @bunnyhero thanks for that link and I have blocked the culprit as well

@mirabilos all of this is a misrepresentation of what scott was "trying" to talk about in that thread regendans linked you

you are best informed if you just read his latests posts since starting that disaster

@YinYinFalcon I still have no reference whom people are talking about…

@YinYinFalcon eh, blocked for posting shit :þ

@mirabilos mission accomplished 🫡

I hope the team learns that they need people with actual social education to do these kind of things

@YinYinFalcon I don’t understand what team you mean. I had blocked that account ages ago.

@mirabilos uh ohh

bad news for you then - he's currently "Product Strategy Advisor to Mastodon Core team"

I feel he means well but is entirely unsuited to tackle this problem, likely just due to his career path/position of privilege

@YinYinFalcon who cares about shitty Mastodon? It’s a blight on the Fediverse anyway.
@YinYinFalcon @mirabilos He did manage to dig himself a hole, and then just kept on digging.

@HollieK72 indeed

and it's supposed to become a blog post - wonder if that will go any better

@YinYinFalcon *Orders in some popcorn for when he posts his blog* 🍿
@mcc you may as well block me next - fine - i mostly disavow bots but some of them may be ok in certain situations - there has to be regulations and compliance but as a dev i may want to build some bots as well.with lots of independent instances best practices with regards to bots will emerge - quite likely - you don't want corp interests to take over #behave #bot compliance #firehose
@mcc Lunatics are taking over. Smh
@mcc That's inclusive in my book. That user can hang out with their AI buddies 👍
@mcc if AI is really that good of a thing, please explain why Jesus never used or even mentioned it.
@mcc this is the modern version of "I saw a bum who said 'I haven't had a bite in three days,' so I bit him."
@mausmalone Also somebody responded to my post above with "well you might as well block me too" so I blocked him
@mcc "what are you gonna do? Stab me?"

@mausmalone

@MattMerk (me) enters the chat and stabs him, takes a short bow, and quickly exits.

@mcc

@mcc as in people who use "AI" in some capacity, by some vague definition? Or did he mean literally gen-AI models posting like typical bot accounts but no person managing the model as much as a typical bot account might be?

@medusaskirt As in a journalist who was disappointed in Mastodon's engagement with his pro-genAI fluff.

Like it's our duty to make him feel appreciated, even though he didn't bother to read the room at all.

One of the head honchos of Mastodon was pearl-clutching over how this makes us an echo chamber, and that we should be more inclusive of genAI fan communities. For... reasons 🤷

@mcc

@mcc "Why no AI users day?"

@mcc I block any pro AI people I come across on here.

If you debate the idiots, they drag you down to their level and then they have home team advantage.

@retrosponge @mcc
This isn’t school. I’m not forced to listen to any garbage takes. Block is the equivalent of turning around and walking away.

@pomegranate_stew @mcc Yep.

A few months ago on here I posted about throwing blocks around and I had someone call me out and say how rude and ignorant it was and how...

And that was as far as I got before I blocked them.

I hope they were a fan of irony.😁

@mcc But if you block an AI advocate, aren't you restricting their someone else's speech?
@mcc what? And no. Next.
@lydiaconwell Is this a serious question?

@anne_twain You are restricting their "someone else's" speech.

It's not my best work, I know.

@mcc
Why do people shouting "but freedom!" never understand that this is reciprocal?
They are free to say what they want - and we are free to listen or not.
They are free to post as much AI-slop as they want to - and we are free to not follow.

And if nobody's interested in their AI-slop it's their problem not ours.
Shouldn't be too hard to understand.

But I guess as them being used to being the biggest bully on the playground they are not used to the experience of being not wanted.
🤷🏻‍♀️

@Sagesse @mcc
> to post as much AI-slop as they want to [...]
> it's their problem not ours
It is our problem, a big one. One human setting up the #siliconiac agent is wreaking havoc to the servers, to the users, to the environment, and this way to every user of the Fediverse whether they follow, not follow, mute or block. The troll user can spit some hate here and there, some 20 posts per hour. Single siliconiac agent can do hundreds per minute on many servers, it will follow you to get fatter on your posts to mimic you later, then it eventually will get some followers that are less aware of the evils lurking.

> Them being used to being the biggest bully
They are. For your as a taxpayer money, for the polluted air you will breathe, for the arid desert made where their silicon bodies now hum.

@ohir
You're right.
I did not mean to disregard these facts.
That's why I block AI every way I can. And why I refuse to use it.

In this post, I put my focus on the human factor because it was this attitude I found disgraceful.

We're on the same page.

@mcc

@mcc Read the i as an lower case L and was like wondering what people named Al did, to deserve being excluded

@mcc It's the type of person who yells "You just can't handle disagreement!" at people who are specifically in the middle of disagreeing with them.

Even though that makes no sense, they hope (and are, sadly, often correct, although less so on Mastodon) that by doing this, they can reframe the discourse to make them look 'reasonable' and their opponents look unreasonable, and in that way they can manipulate and dominate the conversation.

@mcc I met a Trump guy who started yelling "Free Speech! Free Speech! Where's my right to Free Speech! I got a right to Free Speech!" as I threw him out of my office for yelling. I said "Go yell at the mail box on the sidewalk. There's no Constitutional right to make me listen. Go Free Speech outside. Nobody cares."

It would have so much easier to block him.

@mcc the brass neck to use the word inclusive! If they said "I want more AI engagement", fine. Not for me, thank you, but they do them. But "inclusive" is a reserved word for the marginalized, not AI bros.
@grob
My favorite part was equating so-called 'AI' proselytation to being black in the Fedi
@mcc

@mcc why should I go out of my way to make AI users feel included? Cant’t they generate their own audience and talk to that? :^)

Mass blocking robots and their nannies is a victimless crime as far as I’m concerned
